A simple drawing for Valentine's Day. I wanted to draw Asgore and Toriel in the months before Errol was born. I've been meaning to draw more Undertale art in general, but this year's started off rough for me.

deltarune chapter 5 spoilers

in regards to toriel and asgore, i do think there’s a chance for reconciliation, especially if asgore’s biggest crime in this universe was him simply growing neglectful towards his family because of his growing obsession with the dark worlds, his guilt and failure to protect dess. if that’s it, i think them having counseling, genuine talks and some healthy time apart can lead to a genuine reunion. my asgoriel heart would love that. that said, i do think both extreme ends of the defense for one parent or the other misunderstand the nuance behind each. toriel is NOT a bad mother for spending time with a new friend and getting drunk but she is absolutely in the wrong for not apologizing to kris for making so much noise that they couldn’t even sleep well and for constantly making them have to pick up the pieces when it comes to the family situation. it’s unfair of her to expect kris to just be okay with this kind of behavior when currently, she’s been the only adult in their life they can rely on for food, shelter and comfort. as for asgore, he definitely fell short as a father and as a husband. him neglecting his family was genuinely irresponsible and definitely worth criticizing but portraying him as this irredeemable chud who doesn’t deserve to have a life with his family again misses the point in regards to his character. good intentions aren’t enough to justify what he did and how he went about things but damning him forever is precisely what toby is asking us NOT to do. there’s a chance he can make everything right but the way he’s been going about it has been all wrong. being there for kris and asriel as a father, being a better friend/co-parent (and potentially husband again) to toriel and being there for the holidays when rudy eventually passes is exactly what asgore needs to do. and seeing kris injured in the flower king dark world is exactly what snaps him into this mindset. that’s it.
