Flight Log: Final Call
01 December 2019 - This will serve as my appreciation post to all the staff and management of Cathay Pacific as they made my placement as fun and informative as it can be.
First, I want to thank Winnie, Frances and Boris, our three Duty Airport Operations Managers, for their continuous support and guidance to us students. Thank you so much for understanding our situations especially if some of us calls in sick, or made mistakes during shift. Thank you for treating us a part of your team, and never let us feel that we are only students/interns. This means so much to us, that you guys trusted us that we can do this job well.
I also want to personally thank Claire for all the things she did for us. If there is one person who (I think) struggled the most because of us, I think it is Claire. She is our unofficial head. She organized everything for us, from orientation, to uniform fitting and collection, even during the placement itself. She is our go to girl, and she is always ready to listen.
Special mention to Carmen (in green) and Hana (CX red uniform) for being the wackiest and coolest staff ever. Each shift becomes more interesting if you guys are working. Thank you, Carmen, for guiding and teaching me SSBD stuff and making sure I don’t drown at SSBD whenever I am assigned there. Thank you, Hana, for giving us a good laugh each time you are working.
Thank you to all CX staff. Even though my journey with you will extend until January 2020, please accept my sincerest gratitude for all that you have done (and will do in the future) for us. I know teaching us is not part of your duties, but you still did.
CX Fall 2019 Seneca students will forever be grateful.
Flight Log: Boarding
(In this picture is my co-intern, Hee Jae. Boarding is done at this time and we were on the way to put back the signs to the back room)
10 November 2019 - One of the perks of doing my placement at Cathay Pacific is that they sponsor Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) application. I got mine few days after the start of my internship. This means that we can actually go inside the security area and help them on the boarding process.
To be honest, going inside the security area is fun and exciting and it is one of the reasons why I am always eager to go to work. For the first few times we went to the gate, they let us do the document check for passengers. We crosscheck the name of the passenger on the boarding pass to the name written on the passport, and then we go in check if the photo on that same passport matches the passenger.
It was both fun and tiring, as you often see passengers wanting to get into the priority line (business, premium economy) and you have to send them back to their correct queue but they end up getting mad at you. Most of the time, though, you can see excitement on the faces of passengers, and it makes you happy as well.
After a little while, they started to ask me to make announcements on the PA system at the gate. It was nerve wracking at first, and my mind went totally blank. Good thing they have scripts readily available for me to read. After, I started observing and taking notes of how staff do announcements. Their revised script was way better than the printed, so the next time they asked me to do it, I copied their way and made me more confident than the first time I have done it.
It was one of my goals to do the announcement confidently, and I am proud to say that I think that I have achieved it.
OUR PLANE IS FINALLY HERE!!!
I watched videos about cats in Japan. She watched Perfect Blue.
It was fine.
