what do you think bucky's worst memory is, and you can't use the wiping scene. there's bound to be something else that comes to mind. --- @torturewon ---
you know what, i actually wasn’t gonna say that one anyway! but first of all --- i need to throwback to your own, [ here ], because it’s so interesting to me that we have such different insight on this. and, well... given that we’re building on such different backgrounds, too? MCU doesn’t really gives us much as far as those years went, but... i assume, in my portrayal at least, that for the most part, James had a happy childhood + teen years + young adulthood till WWII began brewing. sure, the family wasn’t anywhere near rich, Steve was at risk of dying 7 times out of 10 --- but, all in all, those were relatively happy years.
and whereas i was tempted to also mention his parents’ deaths... and don’t get me wrong, those were definitely moments of anguish and grief --- but i’m going to say that his worst memory is of the moment, already after a couple years of being captured/tortured, when he realized he was starting to forget. when he realized what HYDRA’s ploy really was about, and how it spanned so horribly beyond physical pain/abuse. because... for example, as much as the death of a mother/father hurts, it is somewhat to be expected in life --- it’s a matter of when it happens and how it happens, but it will happen for sure at some point. but the realization that you are being unmade from the inside out, that you’re going to lose yourself even after everything you’ve already endured, that they are going to take your loved ones that live in you and turn them to strangers, to noise to be disposed of --- yeah, this is a memory he isn’t going to get over, ever.
