Hey Katy! Have you heard about the situation with totallynotmark?

I actually hadn't heard of that Youtuber before, but I Googled him and this came up:

UGH TOEI, FUCK OFFFFFFFFFF

Literally so sick of corporations abusing Youtube's copyright system when videos are clearly fair use. Copyright laws have become so archaic and have not kept up with how content creation has evolved in the age of social media.

Also, literally everything I have heard about Japanese media companies tells me they are notoriously anti-consumer, anti-retailer, and anti-artist (not claiming this is a solely Japanese phenomenon btw, like all companies are like this, but Japanese companies are particularly bad). I remember it took Nintendo ages to adapt to Let's Players using their video games when video game developers from other countries were basically like "hey, free advertising!"

Anyway, I hope Mark gets his videos put back up! And thanks for telling me about him, I looked up his channel and saw that he did a series on JoJo that I'm definitely gonna watch (and thankfully David Production isn't nearly as zealous as Toei when it comes to protecting their copyright, so I should have time to watch them).

YouTuber Mark Fitzpatrick a.k.a. TotallyNotMark has been hit severely by a copyright claim by Toei Animation, taking down 150 of his videos. This essentially has destroyed years of his work, something that Mark has calculated would take him 32+ years to restore back! TL;DW: youtuber TotallyNotMark's gotten copyright claims from Toei on 155 videos of his involving Dragon Ball and One Piece, even videos that featured no animated footage, only still images, and due to Youtube's copyright claim process it will take him OVER 30 YEARS to counterclaim them all and get them reuploaded

Now go watch the video and share as much as you can. Youtube won't move a finger unless a huge ruckus is created, and this kind of abusive behavior from both Toei and Youtube can't be left alone

One of my favorite Youtube reviewers, TotallyNotMark, just had 150 of his videos taken down by Toei Animation. He said that those videos amounted to 3 years of work. This same company had him do sponsorships for him. His income just got nuked from orbit. He has a family and full time employees he has to take care of.

Companies do not and will not ever care.
