TOUR-LOG | TUNNEL VISION TOUR | JULY 24
The Back Pockets Tour Log
I do not know what day it is. I try to write but every moment is so magical I am afraid of missing something. The moon was the color rust. It hung low in the sky. I was so homesick. I miss my loved ones. I need to be there for Nandhini. I need to be held by the most man that walked the earth. I need to feel his breath and know he is real. I need Bryant. I need him like I need air. To be able to channel him is my greatest love. I have had a dark image following me. Preying on my fears. Making me unloved. Unloved by my best friend Nathan. So I channeled by wearing my lion costume. My Leo love. Theater tonight was based of the mystical elements that keep us in balance. I hope to god the dark has left through our power of positivity and love. I hate trying to blog when Im fucked up , and Im fucked up so bare with me. Tomorrow we are headed to Chicago. We are in Iowa now. Fairfield , Iowa to be exact. We fell in love with the wind. The small square that reminds us of Marietta Square at home. We fell in love with the fans. A girl asked to rub our feet after our show. And though may think that is a bit off I saw it as the most beautiful thing. Like a proud mother and her child. We danced and sang our hearts out. We know every place we go is temporary but it is nice to fall in love, even if it just for one night.
I woke up this morning
and Bryant aka boo, aka husband, aka perfection, had sent me a video of the night before where many of my loved ones had a party for Austin and Patty. I nearly cried because I felt I was there and Bryant always knows how to make me feel better and at home. I love you boobie :) eeeeeeh!
Back Pockets Tour Day 2
Day 2
This morning I got to stretch in the sun and eat half a grapefruit, some oatmeal, and a hamsammich. We got a late start going to Nashville because some reason we like to go to music stores in Murfreesboro. Oh, Oh . Oh, I had some amazing dreams last night. One involved fucking with my roommate Caleb about his slightly homophobic tendencies and The other I was trying to console upset Emily by hugging her and singing the “ Hey sista soul sista, gotta get that …whatever is next” part of Lady Marmalade where it quickly got awkward. Anyway, we are in the bus now and Lam is painfully learning how to play the recorder he just bought at the Murfreesboro music store… we love so much for some reason. Em is blogging, David reading, Bill editing, Orion and Jared journaling, Derek rockin out and Hollis driving. We get into Nashville early and we go grocery shopping. Jared and I made rice and veggies for dinners and it was super delicious. Anyway, back up. So we play an early show at this record store Called Grimey’s. It is an amazing record store in Nashville and everyone was very receptive. It helped that there was free beer for the people there so we had a better crowd than last night. The owner …Grimey…was super stoked and rocked out the whole time we played. We had quite a few malfunctions. Em’s amp got overheated and various other frustrating things so I told a joke, and Derek and Jared jammed. Overall it was a good show because everyone was nice and understanding. We quickly learned that Mumford and Sons had played at The Basement ( bottom of Grimey’s) the night before. Grimey described it as a “very fun drunken jam”. I was super sorry I missed it. Oop…I smell Ham. Anyway, We have come to a beautiful house owned by Tommy down the street from Grimey’s. We are playing here later on tonight. To pass the time we watched one of my favorite movies House. ( I will post a link). I am honestly getting sleepy so I will blog later…haaaammm… I hope everyone is warm and well!

Beaumont, TX
For real the coolest folks around. So we went to an awesome coffee house in Austin and left a little late. When we arrived to the Victoria House people were cheering. This house am older house with a labyrinth within a labyrinth. Bike shop, guinea pigs, altars, flowers and fuzzballs litter the ground and the ceiling. We played an emotionally charged show where everybody could really feel the energy and did not hesitate to dance or play along. Everyone saw us differently and yet the same, some blue, some green, some yellow, many reds. Different shades of red. We had an interview at the neighboring house and I felt we represented ourselves pretty accurately. Adam chimed in a few times cutting down capitalism and giving shout outs to his favorite people. Lam spoke on queer culture and how influential it is on his performance. We also got asked about our favorite colors and vegetables. When we got back there was a ham sandwich feast, also a few turkey sandwiches and roast beef as well. We quickly felt the place was haunted and were able to hear a few great stories of our hosts in the house. Caroline and I stayed up till around 5 am talking. people were spread between the two houses sleeping, trippin, jammin, or whatever else. This house is beautiful and I will post photos soon :) So much love and no judgement on you.
Day 2 : 10:41 am
I can hear Cale and his partner laughing in their bedroom.
So at the end of day one Adam and I were lured into the parking lot of Motorco where we ate a ham sandwich with some guy in a striped hoodie. I got full really fast so I ran inside to the back “green room” to pee. After peeing I got stuck…you know…in the room. There was so much graffiti and the weird light caused the green room to look like a tunnel that goes on and on. While this literally 10 piece band was playing Quentin Tarantino BATTLE SCENE style music. They are called the New Romans, and they are made up of people over the age of 40. Lam was asleep in an arm chair in the green room like no big thing. Adam found his way to me and started speaking in his Adam language about spiritual beings and the bible he is reading. Somehow we finally escaped the green room when the band was over to load in. As we loaded the “Wolf Mother” Emily went to receive payment when the ( maybe owner?) person who is in charge of money. She quickly found out that they had not paid us or Cale ( the touring bands) but for some reason gave all the money to the local band. Em , furious as any mother bear would be went to the local band and told them they had to decide a cut that was fair for us because we were ….the touring band. She asked for 80 since it was a fair split and they gave her 70 then we sped out. Daniel was our heavenly angel and host and took us to a 24/7 diner called Honey’s. For some reason it looked huge on the outside but tiny on the inside but not any less warm and nice. We talked about the brain, spirituality, and other various topics…biscuits. When our food came I quickly noticed that at 2 am pancakes were popular amongst the table. I got some soup since it was FAREZZZZING and a biscuit with two strawberry jellies. After we munched down we all got tired and headed to Daniel’s lovely home with the trampoline. It was too cold to sleep on the trampoline so we spread out over two couches and the floor. I fell asleep to Jared playing bluegrass and pretty much woke up to it as well. ( See video below) . Since we forgot our stick bucket a Imani, Chris, and Em looked for wild sticks for our fun. During this Adam and I did Yoga, and Em did as well at some point…it is blurry. I volunteered to drive to Asheville which is a three and a half hour drive from Durham. Em, sat in the front seat and as the boys slept we talked about life. Which both of ours have been total opposites in every way and I suppose that is how we fit like puzzle pieces. When we arrive in Asheville and at Cale’s house we bust in and I fall asleep on the couch with his cat ,Smarmy, also sleeping on my back. When I woke she gave me kisses then gavce me space to move around. People were doing different things…Imani drawing, Em napping, some people were watching Planet Earth. Lam, Imani and I went to the store to get food and I bought enough to make dinner for everyone. On tour we used to have Billy make pasta and everyone would give him a small amount of money. The system worked pretty well, so I decided to just do that. Everyone ate pasta and hung out until our show at a local gay bar called Smokey’s. When we arrived it was pretty dead. Only Cale, Julia, and their friends seemed to be there. A grinning crack head followed Jared in and annoyed him by asking if he could play with us. He sat there grinning as we played a few rounds a pool to Rhianna, Beyonce, and other various gay charged tunes that get ya goin. We are all dressed freaky as usual. I am in a copper leotard with a lion head, bellbottoms and black suspenders. Em in a torn gold dress with gold leaf on her face . Lam, shorts and a salsa top. Adam in a joe dirt wig. Christopher was in a blue mask and gold leaf and Jared looking normal with an eye on his forehead. And last but not least by far Imani in a white wedding dress and a head scarf. The bar has filled up and the crack head is still grinning.
Tour Log: Window Dreaming
Winding through the hills on our way to Northern California, it's easy to forget that these hills are just protrusions caused from explosions in the earths molten core. At any point an earthquake or a volcano could wipe us out. Yet still man, in good faith, builds roads through hills and mountains, houses on fault lines, towns in tornado alley. We seem to have this God-like complex that the things we build are permanent. From our vast cities and infrastructure to grass huts, towering buildings to small communities, we will all disappear. The earth is wild, moving, unaffected by our meager attempts to manipulate and inhabit this terrifying wilderness. Yet here we are, in all of our ingenuity and proclivity for survival, acting as though tomorrow we couldn't slip out of tangible consciousness into the vast beyond. Eternity. That horrible "beyond" that is somehow reflected in the wildness of our own earth. Creator and creation are in many ways one. Tomorrow Southern California could break off into the ocean and kill all the celebrities, then we would not only be without California, but the bulk of the entertainment industry as well. Just think, a world without TMZ. But we don't think, we just live. Driving is a perfect example of this. Every day we get into a few thousand pounds of machinery and then hurl ourselves down curving paths at speeds excess of 60mph, faster than any land animal, and we do this with thousands of other motorists, weaving in and out of traffic, without any concern for the consequences. We're all one slip of the wheel, one unchecked blind-spot away from death. And it's not like we're staring it in the face... we're not even recognizing it. We just zoom around listening to music or texting or day dreaming with our toes hanging over the edge of a proverbial cliff, and at any second we could slip off. Speaking of which, these roads are terrible and it's getting hard to type this. You'd think a big blue state like California could use some of that massive tax revenue to fix the pot holes!
