I just came across this game, i don't know much about Townseek, but i LOVE the art so far and i am excited to follow it's development in the Dev's Discord.

Steam Next Fest, summer 2022, part 2. More notes under the cut.

(Part 1)

Master Key - A top-down adventure game. This was a fun one! The old-school Zelda feel is captured quite well, and the two-color style (similar to Minit) looks quite polished. It conveys information pretty well through visuals, and ramps up in difficulty at a good pace. The tools you get (in the demo, a charge attack and a hookshot) are satisfying to use. Would recommend.

Land Above Sea Below - A puzzle game about placing tiles, another entry in the growing niche subgenre headlined by Dorfromantik. This one puts a unique spin on it by giving the player a specific objective: the sea level rises over the course of the game, connecting groups of tiles keeps them above water, and you have to protect your starting tile or the game ends. Neat idea, though in practice it was a bit hard to parse the feedback the game was giving, and whether a move was useful or not.

Poly Vita - An isometric puzzle game about connecting paths. A simple artstyle and a simple gameplay concept to pick up and understand, though actually picking up and placing tiles felt a little finicky at times. Seems alright.

Townseek - A casual sandbox game about exploring a map in a fancy airship. I tried out the original Global Game Jam version last year, so I was interested to see how it's developed since then. It's very charming, with a colorful world to fly around in. The core gameplay loop is pretty straightforward (fly around to different towns and landmarks, do simple quests and tasks, buy and sell goods, earn money to unlock upgrades and make your ship even fancier) and there's never any time pressure, but there's enough to keep you busy (you can only juggle so many quests at once, and different towns have different supplies and demands and even different currencies) that running the loop and Making Numbers Go Up ends up feeling pretty satisfying. A good time-waster.

The Spirit and the Mouse - A 3D adventure game. Sometimes I feel like I overuse the word “charm”, but maybe it's just that I tend to seek out that sort of game (hello, Wholesome Games server), and this one fits the bill. It's a nice setting and there's plenty to explore, though the movement was a lot more restricted than I was expecting: there's no jump, only climbing up ledges, so navigating the human-sized village as a tiny mouse becomes a puzzle in itself. Once or twice that felt like a hindrance, but usually I didn't mind it that much.

Frogsong - An adventure game that's been in my orbit for a while (hello again, Wholesome Games server). I've been meaning to give it a look and finally got around to it. I wish the demo had a bit more depth, gameplay-wise; it's just long enough to get a feel for jumping through arenas and swinging the sword around, but it ends pretty abruptly once you start to really get into it. Even so, it was a nice introduction to the characters and setting, the hand-drawn art has a lot of charm, and it offers a lot of accessibility options for different players. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.
