Elesa comes from a large extended family, her dad being one of five siblings. So naturally, when she and Skyla started dating, it took some time for Skyla to meet all of said family. The last of the bunch that she was introduced to was the one she was most terrified to meet, because it just happened to be him
See, Elesa’s Uncle Mat ((aka Surge)) is a bit of a boogeyman in the eyes of most Flying-type trainers. Not only is his skill as an Electric-type trainer known around the Pokeglobe, but he’s also a pilot veteran. Flying high enough or fast enough to try to escape him would feel nigh impossible because he’s just as at home in their element as he is his own
Not to mention for Skyla personally, during her years as a pilot, she’d met more than a few others in the field around his age and of similar backgrounds that didn’t exactly take it well when she came out as a lesbian
So when the time finally came around for a particular family reunion, seeing the man pull up with his Kantonian husband and stepdaughter, before immediately breaking into a big ol’ grin at the sight of Skyla and asking about her experiences in the cockpit and recalling stories with her grandpa? With absolutely no malice? Only genuine interest in the girl his little Liz talked so much about? It kinda floored her a bit
