Omg this chapter was really intense and interesting. I will be honest, I’m with both Norman and Emma in this, it really is a DIFFICULT scenario.
So, we learn that Musica has that power in her blood, so the obvious solution was that she shared this power with others, but surprise...
The Royal family killed Musica’s allies because this affects their power and influence, as Ray says...
Of course, Emma is shocked, so when Norman says...
I REALLY AGREE WITH THIS. Along the series, we have seen lots of characters thinking more about themselves than others, some even taking advantage of others.
And to be fair, there are people like that in real life, not everyone has the same good intentions that you have and we (unfortunately) need to assimilate that.
Then, Norman says that they need to kill both Musica and Sung-Joo, and that’s when I disagree with him and tbh I don’t understand that point? Why kill them? Because they can be an unexpected factor if they interfere in their plan? I’m assuming Norman don’t expect them to join to their plan (bc it’s a plan about eradicating their kind) so it’s better to eliminate the unexpected factor before it interferes.
Of course, Emma disagrees and says...
That’s exactly what I was thinking, why not give them a choice? A choice where they don’t need to eat human bodies. We know that’s a NECESSITY for them, but if there is a way where THAT could not be necessity anymore, then why not follow that path?
He’s right. And what is sadder it’s that there is evidence of this in chapter 51
(“SCREWED WITH RELATIONS, RACE AND SOCIETY ITSELF” now that makes more sense with this chapter)
Sung-Joo, a demon who DOESN’T EAT HUMAN FLESH, wants to get advantage of the human’s rebellion because now he has an opportunity to eat it again even though he DOESN’T NEED IT ANYMORE.
Also the part when he says “it’s because you never had a reason to eat them, Musica” he obviously have eaten human meat in the past, not anymore because that’s not longer a necessity, but if there is a chance to eat human meat again he will take it (we know that his religion is the one that holds him back in these circumstances).
So, when Norman says “Everyone has the same self-control?” “Every single demon would be able to resist their hunger?” The answer is no, and as Sung-Joo there are probably other demons that are part of his religion that would think like that. Humans have been their food for ages, that cannot change so easily.
However, what if there are demons that are willing to change. What if there ARE demons like that. The children would have to risk being eaten by them, being hunted again. There is no guarantee that there would not be more blood of children spilled and that’s exactly what Norman tries to prevent.
If I was there I would like to give a chance to the demons to change as Emma, however that means risking the life of my friends and family because I cannot be certain of the intentions of these demons, can I trust their word? Are they lying? Are they not? Can their nature, which is eat human meat something that they have been doing for ages, be suppressed? Can I put at risk the lives of SO many children but as well demons?
What can I do to protect my family?
Because these decisions would not only affect me but also everyone I love (Emma and Ray know that, especially with Yuugo’s story with the Glory Bell’s kids)
I understand Norman, I understand Emma and I’m really interested in what Ray thinks about this.
I really like the dilemma that the story is trying to construct
