Thinking about don (spoilers) I really hate how his trauma is overlooked and i wish he had more screen time, development, and his POV of how he felt about his mom, the orphanage, and everything. ALSO TRIGGER WARNING! THIS CONTAINS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES!
I have a headcanon that Don developed some sort of anxiety after losing conny and realizing the dark truth of the orphanage, but he is really good at hiding it. he hides it because he thinks it will make him more useless, he needs to be strong for his siblings and doesn't want to worry them or put them in a tight spot, and he probably thinks he is just overreacting. Separation anxiety maybe??? or Like he REALLY fears that something bad was going on and he hates it when he didn't notice. Days after yuugo, ray and emma left the bunker, He was overthinking that yuugo had plans to kill all his siblings starting with ray and emma. He trusts them, really, but he couldn't helped have this doubt that they wouldn't come back. There is SO MUCH they don't know about the outside world, and he wishes that he couldn't do anything to help. He really does not trust yuugo after their first encounter. despite his lingering fear that has crept over him every day, he stays positive for his siblings and distracts them by playing games and doing chores. He also kept on coming up with topics to talk about to lift up the atmosphere. He basically does whatever he can to help and cope. Gilda probably noticed this. when she confronted him, Don shrugged it off like it was nothing at first. But soon they both became each other's safe person, and they got closer after that. They help each other calm down. another headcanon i have in mind is that he often compares himself to the golden trio. Back at gracefield, he used to admire them and is also insecure about himself. His insecurities got worse when he found out about everything and rely everything on ray and emma. This boy is trying. He is trying so hard to help. But it feels like his efforts are all for nothing. Another headcanon about don is he become more wary and observant. he always checks up on his siblings and make sure they don't leave his sight unless he knows where they are. He had encounter topics that are difficult to talk about. An example of this is when one of his siblings asked why their mama wanted to kill them. he really couldn't answer it. He had to be the one to comfort them whenever those topics came up, aside from gilda ofc. When there were nights when he couldn't bring himself to sleep, he drags himself to the security room to watch over whatever was outside. It was his way to make himself more useful. He really misses conny. He feels stupid and hates himself for not bringing a piece of her when they escaped. (Aka the bunny). He sometimes locks himself in a room to mourn for her and the other dead siblings. He had nightmares where conny was eaten by demons and she was calling out to him. He cries himself to sleep when he wakes up. He probably had dreams of norman being eaten by demons with a smile on his face. Its broke don's heart that he was smiling knowing that his sacrifice will not be in vain. He had accidentally eavesdropped on thoma and lani when they talk about ray's suicide attempt. The younger boys were traumatized ofc but determined to help ray to live longer. Don felt more guilt than it already had, this made him breaks down in tears and hopes that ray and emma won't kill themselves to save each other or their family. He really does not know how he feels about his mom. He loves conny. She's, his bestie. But also, He loves his mom and is very hurt by her betrayal. He is very conflicted and is in denial (a bit). He questions why would she do such a thing? Does she really love us, her family? Was everything a lie? etc. wanna add more headcanons? and what do Ya'll think?
