Imperial!Octavian Headcanons

I have recently become aware of the Imperial!Octavian headcanon and I love it.

I like to combine that with Trans!Octavian. So Octavian was afab, named “Julia something” my preferences being either Julia Paulla or Julia Mino, both meaning “The youngest Julia”.

He was spoiled in his early years - though he didn't really see much of his father, Caligula. Instead he was raised by a series of nannies and servants.

He wasn’t expected he would amount to much. The children of the emperors are just regular humans, legacies gaining power is unusual after all. More than likely, they are given jobs within the company and ignored in their adulthood.

However, Octavian received the gift of prophecy from Apollo. This brought him attention. He was compared to Augustus - which gave him so much validation and gender euphoria he chose to name “Octavian”. However, as much as he was lauded for his gifts, his gender dysphoria made him fight with his family - to the point of him running away at ten or eleven.

Octavian never really recovered from the fall out with his family, but someone did reach out - his cousin, Nero. Even long distance, Nero was a useful ally. Nero was able to fund Octavian through his transition and his pursuit of power. Perhaps it was also Nero who provided Octavian the reference letters he needed to enter the First Cohort.

It’s why Octavian quickly turned to Nero when the war with the Greeks began. Octavian came to Nero for help.

Additionally, mental illness is also very common within the Julio-Claudian dynasty, so the fact that Octavian is coded for that (I’m not familiar enough with mental illnesses to know specifics) makes him being one of their offspring like… at least thematically plausible.

I have a couple takes when it comes to this:

Bryce was sent as a spy and a brake on Octavian, by Nero, after Octavian had himself named Pontifex Maximus. That wasn’t part of Nero’s approved path. As a result, Octavian sent Bryce off alone to hunt down Nico and Reyna - likely believing that one of them would defeat Bryce for him.

This is going to sound hairbrained but - Percy’s pillow pet had been bugged by Caligula and was thus going to be used to spy on Percy / New Rome. This is why Octavian butchers it. But he cannot even start to explain who the emperors are at that time.

This time it's answering the question: what if Octavian ended up in Valhalla.

After sacrificing himself to kill Gaia, Octavian finds himself outside of a strange building in Boston. There were a lot of places he thought he might end up when he died. The Germanic afterlife known as Valhalla? Not one of them.
