since you've talked about it before do you have any trans yata headcanons?
I certainly do my guy.
Here are my previous posts about trans!yata: 1 | 2 I thought I talked abt this more but I can’t see any more posts about it on my blog so apparently not???
I would also like to direct u to @snow-runt‘s A+++++ trans!yata hcs tho bc it’s those hcs that got this idea in my head in the first place
So in my mind I guess I think Misaki would have figured out he was trans in his early tweens, maybe when he was about 11?? But he’s the typical trans narrative “always been a tomboy” type and it just kind of clicked that the reason he hated girly stuff so much is cause he’s a boy
He’d start presenting masc when he started middle school, but wouldn’t tell his family because he doesn’t know how to communicate. He gets told off a few times for wearing the wrong uniform by teachers but eventually they just get tired of telling him because they know he’s not gonna change.
He gets really snippy at people about being misgendered, which happens a lot while he’s in school, which is part of the reason he drops out as early as he does.
When he and Saruhiko have their encounter in the bathroom that first time, Saruhiko asks why he’s in the boy’s bathroom, and Misaki just snaps at him “I’m a boy!” and Saruhiko doesn’t question it again.
Once they get closer as friends, Saruhiko would get curious as to why Misaki’s mother seems to talk about him like he’s a girl though, and it’s at that point that Misaki confesses that he wasn’t born a boy, and he’s terrified of losing the only friend he has. Saruhiko blinks and says “Oh, you’re transgender” and Misaki nods and Saruhiko just goes “okay,” and doesn’t really bring it up again
Saruhiko does start to notice though as Misaki’s puberty kicks in and even though he has quite small boobs they still bug the shit out of him and he can’t stand periods and stuff. Saruhiko catches him using bandages to bind with while they’re getting changed for PE and he tells him off and orders a proper binder for him. He also tells Misaki to go to the goddamn doctor and go on the pill so he doesn’t have periods so often/they aren’t as heavy or painful. As much as Saruhiko is High Key A Mess, he’s still organised enough to make sure his best friend is not a mess.
Once they’ve moved into the apartment together, Saruhiko starts researching a way for him to self-med, and he offers to fund Misaki’s HRT, as Misaki can’t afford it himself. Misaki cries a little bit.
By the time they join Homra, Misaki is full-time and he tries his best to be stealth. Because he started transitioning quite young, he manages to at least pass as androgynous fairly easily, and it helps that he’s quite tall for someone who’s AFAB (considering the average height for a female in japan is like 5′2″) and his voice was already sort of deep.
Misaki panics a little bit when he finds out Rikio is a member of Homra, seeing as they knew each other when they were kids. Rikio initially doesn’t quite recognise Misaki, but eventually it clicks. Misaki sees the look of recognition in his eyes, and internally starts cussing and panicking that Rikio will out him, but Rikio doesn’t say anything until the two are alone, when he quietly asks why he remembers Misaki as a girl. Misaki quickly explains he’s a guy, he was just born a girl, and tells him not to tell anyone else at Homra. Rikio simply says he understands.
The only other people at Homra who know are Tatara, Izumo, and Anna.
Anna knows because of her clairvoyance,
Tatara knows because Misaki told him shortly after Saruhiko left. Tatara was a great source of support for Misaki during that time, and Misaki ended up admitting to him while he was quite upset everything Saruhiko did to support him while he was starting his transition.
Izumo knows because he was trying to tend to Misaki’s injuries after a fight, and he told Misaki to take off his binder (which he thought was just a tank top) so he could take a look at the injuries underneath it, and Misaki vehemently refused. They argued for about 5 minutes before Misaki finally gave in and admitted “I can’t take it off because it’s a fucking breast binder okay?” Izumo is initially confused, and he’d probably say something like “You know I won’t care if you have gynecomastia. I care that you’re probably hurt pretty bad and won’t let me take a look” and Misaki kind of reluctantly admits no that’s not why he’s wearing it. Izumo would apologise at that point for pushing him, but still ask that he was allowed to take a look at his injuries. Once Misaki was cleaned up, Izumo would say smth like “pardon me if this is kinda intrusive, but don’t most trans guys get surgery to get ‘em chopped off?” and Misaki would say yes, but that costs money that I don’t have, at which point Izumo would offer to fund his top surgery with profits from the bar. Misaki is initially reluctant to accept the money, but Izumo insists that they normally apportion a certain amount of funds to charity anyway, and this counts as a charitable case, plus once he knows Misaki is binding he starts to notice him wincing when his ribs get sore and stuff.
When he does get the surgery, they cover it up to the members that don’t know about Misaki’s trans status as him having a skateboarding accident and puncturing a lung and needing surgery to fix it up.
Izumo also offers to pay for Misaki’s bottom surgery if he wants it- Misaki gets really embarrassed talking about it, but he told Izumo at one point that he can’t legally change his gender on his documentation unless he gets GRS, so Izumo knows he does want that surgery.
What if yata's trans and saru knows ofc. (And thats the reason why he has a 'girly' name) then when they arent friends anymore, maybe scepter 4 and homra has to work together, but yata has his period so he is suffering the whole time, and at one point passes out and saru is the one finds him
I imagine Yata would probably really hate getting his period becausehe feels like it’s some kind of reminder that he’s somehow less of aman just because he’s trans. When he first gets his period in middleschool he’s still not really out to anyone except Fushimi and his momteaching him about buying feminine products and stuff is the mostmortifying experience of his life (oh but imagine he hates buyingpads and tampons precisely because he thinks of them as ‘girl’ thingsand he’s not a girl, then when he and Fushimi move in together he’ssurprised to find that the bathroom is steadily stocked with thembecause without even mentioning it Fushimi starts buying them forYata so that Yata doesn’t have to deal with it). So then at somepoint Yata starts taking testosterone and that for the most partstops his periods, which he is very thankful for because he’s totallyembarrassed at the possibility of having his period while he’s atHomra, where only a handful of people know Yata’s trans. Plus maybeYata has really painful periods too and he’s happy that he doesn’thave to worry about spending a few days barely able to move fromcramps once a month.
So then some time post-betrayal there’s a situation that requiresHomra and Scepter 4 to combine their forces in order to find outwhere this group of criminal Strains is hiding. At the same timeYata’s just started a new hormone therapy due to complications withhis old one and one of the unfortunate side effects is that hisperiod has started up again and he feels like utter shit. He doesn’twant anyone to know though because he’s embarrassed, he thinks peoplewill look at him like he’s a girl if he admits he’s got his periodand that they’ll look down on him as a weakling or something that hecan’t even withstand a few simple cramps (Yata has clearlyinternalized the rhetoric of idiot men who have never experiencedperiod cramps and think they can be magically wished away). Plus thesituation’s serious and Homra needs their vanguard, Yata feels likeif he sat this out he’d be letting his whole clan down. Kusanagikeeps looking at him in some concern because he can kinda tell thatYata’s not feeling so hot but Yata waves it off as just a littlesoreness from falling off his skateboard. At one point the mainmembers of Homra are having a quick strategy meeting with Scepter 4’stop three though and Fushimi keeps looking at Yata curiously, wondering what the hell that idiot’s doing when he’s obviously inpain and when did Yata start getting his period again anyway.
Some time later Fushimi’s off on his own trying to hunt down theStrain and he ends up running into Yata just slumped against a wallin an alley, obviously in pain. Fushimi tries to act cold at first, asking if Yata’s an idiot for doing all this when he’s on his period, but he finds himself feeling concerned despite himself when Yatadoesn’t even answer. Some time later Yata wakes up on his own bed inhis own apartment with Fushimi sitting in the chair beside himlooking annoyed. Yata’s immediately pissed at Fushimi for taking himaway from the battle, like Homra needs him and Yata can’t just sitaround and besides he’s sure that Fushimi probably couldn’t resisttelling everyone how the great Yatagarasu was felled by periodcramps. Fushimi just glares at him and then sets a plastic bag on thebed before turning to walk away, telling Yata that dangeroussituations aren’t the place for idiots who won’t even admit when theycan barely move. Yata’s pissed off and yells at Fushimi as he leaves, punching the bed in frustration. That’s when the bag falls on to thefloor and Yata sees what Fushimi brought him: all the suppliesFushimi used to buy for Yata back when they lived together and Yatastill got periods, Yata’s usual brand of tampon and the aspirin thatthey found worked best for cramps and Yata’s favorite chocolate barbecause he’s usually extra hungry this time of the month. Yata’stotally confused about it because here Fushimi’s his enemy andFushimi was still acting like a jerk but he also did somethingactually nice towards him too and Yata has no idea how he’s supposedto feel about this.

okay so I was just thinking about trans boy!Yata again because I saw a post abt him in the tags and it’s like my favourite headcanon for K project of all time and I just had a thought:
What if Misaki’s being trans was the reason he hasn’t seen his mother since he was in Homra?
Perhaps it was upon joining Homra that he started presenting masc full time and started HRT and got his first binder (possibly with Izumo’s financial aid????) and the reason he didn’t see her for all that time was because he just didn’t know how to tell her and his siblings and his stepfather that he was trans, and he just kept putting it off and putting it off until he thought it was too late, and then it got to the point where he wasn’t even sure if his family would recognise him anymore now that the T had started to kick in and he started to pass as male. That might also explain why he kept his given name even though he doesn’t seem to particularly like it- it’s gender-neutral even if it is a bit girly, but he didn’t want to change it because it was given to him by his mother, and he misses her and he wants her to be a part of his life he just doesn’t know how to bring it up after all these years.
It’s only once he reconciles with Saruhiko after ROK, and Saru finds out that he still hasn’t spoken to his family that he gets the kick up the arse to finally talk to them- possibly because Saruhiko chews him out about throwing away such a loving family because he’s too scared to just tell his mother, and there’s that unspoken undertone of you’re lucky to have a family like that because I never did, so he finally goes back home to talk to his mother, and she’s completely loving and accepting and she tells him that all she wanted when she was pregnant was for her baby to be healthy and safe and happy and she never cared what gender the baby would be born as- why would she care now? And Misaki suddenly doesn’t know what he was so afraid of all those years.
The only thing wrong with trans!Yata is that if Misaki were trans, it would be really really awful for Fushimi to tease him like that.
I have the same issue- we know Saruhiko teased Misaki with his first name because he knew it got to him and he wanted Misaki’s attention, even if it was negative attention, but I don’t think Saruhiko is the kind of person who would go as far as to use something against Misaki that he knew triggered his dysphoria.
Idk I think this could go a number of ways. On the one hand, there’s the prospect that Saruhiko doesn’t know Misaki is hurt by his forename because of dysphoria- after all, he kept it despite transitioning, but I also feel that’s a little flimsy, because Saruhiko should know Misaki better than that if he knew Misaki was trans.
There’s also simpler workarounds, like if trans!Yata was an AU, in that AU I don’t think Saruhiko would taunt him so much about his name, or he might not know the impact of his words if Misaki had started presenting masc full time while he was younger, before he met Saruhiko, and he was stealth so Saruhiko didn’t know the full reason as to why it hurts him so much. Both of these I think are easier to swallow alternatives.
And then there’s also the prospect that Saruhiko knew full well the effect taunting Misaki about his name has, but he did it anyway, which I think is possible even if it’s quite unpleasant to think about. Saruhiko didn’t seem to have a lot of limits in terms of what he picked on Misaki about while they weren’t friends, and while I don’t remember him actively picking on Misaki about things like Mikoto’s death, he was very candid in talking about it, suggesting that even know he knew it had a massive emotional impact on him, he wasn’t pulling any punches so to speak. He was quite desperate and in a very dark place (definitely not an excuse tho), so he might be pushed to the point of using Misaki’s name against him even knowing the implications, which of course Misaki would be rightfully very pissed about. If this was the case, I think it would be a big sticking point during their reconciliation, and it might take Misaki longer to learn to trust Saruhiko again and it would be difficult for him to work through his issues with that- even though he knows it wasn’t necessarily from a place of transphobia and that Saruhiko has never seen him as anything but a guy, no different to any other guy, I think it would take him a long time before he was comfortable with Saruhiko using his given name to refer to him at the very least if Saruhiko really did use it maliciously against him.
