Ray and Gavin started out as penpals in school. It was program their middle school set up. Ray thought it was dumb. What did it matter? Not like he'd ever actually meet this person.

Gavin and Ray quickly became best friends. And started taking on any platform they could.

Ray was the first person Gavin came out to. Ray supported and and helped Gavin through every step of his transition.

When they both got old enough they saved up money and Gavin came to visit. First time they saw eachother they cried and just hugged eachother in the airport.

After that stay Gavin would come visit in the summer. Ray came and visited on Christmas.

Finally Gavin decided that he was going to move to the states. He and Ray moved to Los Santos.

First they met Jack- and she fell in love with the two dorks. She took them to Geoff. Who saw their potential and took them in.

but really tho I saw a super cute post by someone who has rats and explained that they have a short squeak for “don’t play so rough!” and a longer squeak for “stop it!” when they don’t want to play at all

please imagine Connor trying to infodump at Nines about dogs for the one billionth time to try to make him deviate through cuteness (or at least understand that dogs are cute bc humans said so and humans are ppl and if you don’t have the appropriate Neurotypical Emotion™ in response to dogs, ur not a people)

and Gavin comes over to aggressively counter-infodump about how Nines doesn’t have to think dogs are cute and anyway rats are WAY better, you don’t have to think a pet is cute to love it and animals don’t have to be cute to be loved, bc some people don’t think rats are cute but that doesn’t mean they get to talk shit about his babies

he explains the squeak system while infodumping to Nines, who has never had his boundaries respected before because Connor associates touch with Hank hugging him and people accepting him, and he keeps trying to deviate Nines through hugs and touching bc I personally hc Connor’s Big Flaw as being self-centered and thinking of Nines as Himself-2.0

but anyway, this convo introduces Nines to some very important concepts!! like:

cute, small, conventionally accepted things aren’t the only things deserving of love and respect

Nines is “scary” “creepy” and specifically designed not to be cute like Connor

could he be deserving of love and respect???

yellow LED just means processing information and a red LED means he’s experiencing an error and if he’s not Perfect At All Times he will be deactivated, so he hacks his LED and refuses to ever let it be red and show weakness

BUT now he can at least make an imitation squeak noise at Gavin if his super-super senses are picking up on like, 5000+ stimulus all at once and he needs a break or if Gavin’s yelling is too much

Gavin is actually startled enough by the short squeak and instinctively recognizes it that he automatically lowers his voice even in the middle of yelling at Nines bc he heard the “pls not so much” sound his babies make

Gavin’s phone randomly makes the long squeak sound, and he doesn’t really know exactly what’s going on, but only Nines would know what that means and also hack his phone so he goes looking for him

he finds Nines cornered by Connor in the hallway for another “gentle talk” about how to become a deviant that sounds like some gross southern white lady bullshit trying to tell you about jesus

Connor honestly is trying to help Nines, but he cannot understand that what’s good and safe for him is not for Nines! your experiences are not universal!!

Gavin yells at Connor until he fucks off, and then him and Nines bond by mutually complaining about Connor and all their other coworkers and whoops, now they’re friends
