What would be Andrew's reason for wanting to be seen as "normal" in your AU?

Neurodivergent Masking and Gender Dysphoria.

Andrew and Ashley appear to have neurodivergent characteristics.

Even though Nemlei has confirmed that they do not have any disorders, it's undeniable that the siblings demonstrate these characteristics, especially Ashley, who exhibits behaviors indicative of a severe case of BPD.

The game itself shows Andrew wanting to hide or suppress aspects of his true colors, always wanting to please others and nearly freaking out when he does something even slightly "wrong" or suspicious in social situations.

Not because he cares, but because it was forced upon him.

Because throughout his life he was forced to do things he didn't want to do and just to please others, never being able to show a part of himself because it wasn't "necessary".

He only started dating Julia because of the disgusting rumors circulating.

Even after the rumors dissipated, he continued with Julia, even though he didn't feel anything for her, but because he felt he "owed" her, especially for having killed her best friend.

He simply continued the relationship because that was what was expected of him:

A "NORMAL" life.

Just letting all your frustrations build up until it finally explodes.

This connects with Neurodivergent Masking, something that makes sense with the time period of the game.

Considering that at that time, people had little knowledge and a limited view of Neurodivergence, unfortunately, they were very poorly regarded by society, and those who weren't considered in the Espectro were simply seen as lazy, hopeless, disappointing, and embarrassing.

Regarding dysphoria, it was a headcanon I ended up discovering from @bipanicoverthegravessiblings.

The game itself mocks Andrew for not fitting the definition of "masculinity," and for him to always suppress his true feelings and want to get rid of it.

Andrew, instead of understanding why he feels these feelings, simply prefers to find a quicker solution, as he was never allowed to just think about himself.

This is one of the reasons he's so obsessed with labeling himself as Andy or Andrew.

That's why Andrew feels a certain envy/admiration for Taura. Because, in the beginning, he used to transfer his feelings to her, believing she was everything she should be.

He barely allows himself to get past the superficial idea of ​​Taura, at least at first…

So combine all this with the constant verbal abuse and neglect he received from his parents and the result is; A frustrated adult who is unable to be true to himself with self-destructive tendencies.

Tbh, all the gender anxiety and insecurity over Andrew is in the game, even as little Andy, people were pushing their own ideas of gender and manhood onto her.

She's genuinely such a compelling transfem character precisely because of the endings where she doesn't self-actualize, like the Shots and Such is so bleak because of Andrew taking on the same masculine patriarch role as her grandfather and being wholly unwilling to interrogate her own issues and trauma, even though it would help both herself and Ashley!

Like, if we get tangible transfem Andrew endings, whether subtle or in your face, it would be one of the few times where you get to see a character at his worst and her best and how that effects her own happiness and suicidal depression.

Also, I love how you draw Andrew, effeminate enough to cause some gender confusion with their androgyny while obviously not letting go of masculinity and being a Man TM because of course Andrew wouldn't, the necessary character development hasn't been reach for her to admit her own desires to herself let alone transition.

This is a drawing I've always wanted to add to my list (I had to cheat myself to make myself draw it).

While this drawing is a reference, it also serves as a small glimpse into the fate of our three villains in my AU.

It doesn't matter if it's good or evil, everyone will have to overcome a part of themselves to survive or be devoured by their own selfishness.💀💀💀

By the way, the reference to the three wise monkeys also portrays a part of Taura's psychology, at least the "hear no evil" part.

TRIGGER WARNING: MENTION OF DEPRESSION

"Happy Ending" is one of the routes in my AU, although I consider it more of an AU than a true ending, but since my AU doesn't have a "true ending," let's go!

This route focuses on where our trio could escape their past crimes in another country (Taura's objective was to return home).

Taura finally managed to break free from Lord Black Hat's clutches with the help of an amulet from an opposing entity.
