Sorry for the pause in posting! I've been working on an Amethyst wig from Houseki no Kuni, and I was a little unsure if the technique I wanted to try would pan out or not. I wanted to use Transpart to form compound curves that would catch and reflect light like how Amethyst's hair is modeled in the show. After that I'll be adding cellophane to the Transpart pieces, but mostly on the underside so things will still look very slick and gemlike. These pictures are what I've accomplished so far - styling the base wig (it's like a hair helmet hahaha), making painter's tape templates for the Transpart, the first couple pieces getting molded, and a makeup test. I'd also like to give a similar treatment to the braid, but I'm not sure how much patience I'll have for that.
Awesome shot of my f!ghost rider by @brilanimagery from our shoot at #dragoncon ! His work is always so fantastic! There's still a lot i need to rework/redo with this costume (make a corset instead of a bunny suit, fix the fit on the helmet, etc) but I'm still pleased with its first run! #dragonconcosplay #dragoncon2017 #ghostridercosplay #ghostrider #allnewghostrider #robbiereyes #cast4art #worbla #transpart #worblafinestart #worblatranspart #smoothon #moodfabrics #madewithmood #allnewghostridercosplay #marvel #marvelcomics #marvelcosplay #genderbent #rule63 #comics #comicscosplay #cosplay
Still need to add the sleeves, but im super happy with how the dress is turning out. Theres so much poof thanks to my hips and my fabric choices. The shiny white layer is brocade and it has a lot of structure to it. Then the two light organza layers just fill it in.
I’m glad i remembered to put in pockets 😩 They’re deep enough to carry my phone and wallet and made out of the broade which made them strong enough to not really stress at holding something heavy. Plus the blue layer hides them for an anti theft bonus 😀
I will need to switch out the elastic bands on my wings for clear ones, the white kinda stick out if my hair doesn’t perfectly cover them…

Played around with my TranspArt that I got yesterday and figure I’ll do my own little review on it.
--Shaping-- It shapes pretty well. I only used my hair dryer (which I use for reg worbla too) and it heated up fairly easily. (Also helps when your apartment is like 100 degrees F) I shaped it over a half styrofoam ball and had to use a cloth/fabric over it to help hold it down to form. It becomes VERY HOT! Please be careful! It holds its shape well. Though unlike regular worbla, where it starts flimsy-you heat it-it becomes super rigid after cooling... the TranspArt still seems super flimsy/bendable after it cools. I’m sure with a larger piece it would bubble/warp funny if it tries to make complex curves, but this smaller piece seemed to do fine. Not sure how it would handle both concave and convex in the same piece tho. Probably not very well.
--Piecing together seams-- Unlike reg worbla, you can’t just heat the edges and meld them together. I cut a strip off (seen along the left) and tried gorilla/super gluing the edges together. Some of the areas held better than others as it wasn’t an exact flat edge/surface to work with. Also it was very messy. I used a clear tape along the seam to hold it together. Though you have to be careful of air bubbles. I also just tried bending the piece, now that it was cooled, and the seam totally just cracked open. So it’s going to be very hard/near impossible to piece together seams. Does anybody have any help/tips with this?
Also, kinda on a side note of piecing together... I tried rolling the bottom right corner. So it rolled pretty nicely, but you have to hold it tightly in place while it cools and it also does not stick to itself unlike the reg worbla does. So you can just unroll it if you really wanted to, tho it does retain the curl.
--Painting-- So in the bottom left corner, I just painted a quick one layer of black acrylic paint. Depending on what kind of look you want, you may want to paint on the inside to prevent scratches/dings to the paint job and also to keep the glossy look of the transpArt. Speaking of scratches/dings, if you paint on the outside, you will definitely want to clear coat it! Even if you paint on the inside I would clear coat it for extra safety! The paint scratches off fairly easily!
--Visibility-- Yes, it’s clear, so you can “see” thru it. But It’s not super crystal clear. It does kinda give a slight blur effect. In the upper right corner (tho may be hard to tell from picture) I sprayed a little bit of clear coat on the transpArt. Y’know how on resin, sometimes if you spray a clear coat on it, it becomes super clear and shiny? Well... it makes the transpArt shiny/glossy for sure.. but visibility goes way down. It becomes super blurry! (Almost just as bad as how I see without my glasses!)
I have some window tint film coming in the mail to test out with transpArt too. So we’ll see how that works out and see the visibility outcomes.
-------------------------
So those are some things about my experiences with transpArt so far. I may try to see how well it melds with reg worbla too. I’m sure I’ll find some use for it in my next project ;)
