Spaying and neutering wild neighborhood cats is important. Keeping the population in check… as wild cats decimate bird populations among other things. One neighborhood cat is cute… 57 is a problem. Step 1. Make sure you have a solid plan on where you are going to take the cats before you trap them. A shelter, rescue, or a clinic. Have it worked out before you trap the cats. Make sure where you plan to take them is copacetic with your idea. Step two. Consider contacting organizations like Luxe Paws or similar in your area. People who do TNR, have vet connections, own traps and have knowledge. Just getting spay and neuter appointments in certain areas is a challenge. Step three: attempt to get spay and neuter programs in your city or town. Your local municipality should be trying to help keep feral cat populations in check. Step four: it’s better to get kittens early than wait till they grow too old. But it’s important also to get mature male and females spay and neutered or else you will continue to have blossoms of kittens. Step five. Learn TNR from someone who knows what they’re doing and don’t ask me… I’m not even a novice. I just did it for a few hours. That’s trap/neuter/return… Or trap/spay/release… Or trap/fix/get medical help/find adopters… One was in need of medical attention.
