Jenate - the 1 (Taylor Swift)
do you have any jenny humphrey post-leaving new york headcanons? in the veins of like where she went what she was up to did she ever come back to ny (bc season 6 is not real!)
OOOh yes okay!
So I think that first summer in Hudson she mainly just hangs out with her mom, following her around and doing her routine and what not. She keeps in touch with Dan and Eric and her father & Lily obviously, but that's really about it, at first. After everything that went down, she kinda retreats into herself.
That fall she goes to public school, which? Is Constance/St. Jude's K-12? The school Constance is based off is, but even then have the Humphreys actually been going since kindergarten? Unclear, but this might be the first time Jenny's ever gone to public school. And that's different for sure.
She keeps her head down, trying to find her way, not too bothered by not being popular, she's been there, done that. She joins the Choir and the Art Club and makes a couple friends, no one as close as Eric, but at least she doesn't have to eat lunch alone.
Her and Nate start talking again after his parents' divorce (the whole "Jenny and Vanessa help Juliet drug Serena" plot is also fake actually!) and in one of their phone calls, he mentions something about regretting not leaving the Upper East Side, and it inspires Jenny.
The next day, she googles "Best Fashion Schools Outside the US" and that's when she decides to apply to Central Saint Martins.
Her parents are both a little wary of her decision at first, but she's so firm on it, that they eventually both come around and agree to it if that's what she really wants.
She spends the rest of senior year in a happy daze, sketching and sewing and counting down the days until she can start her new life in London.
The entire Van der Humphrey clan comes to Jenny's graduation, including Serena even, which makes Jenny feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
She spends the summer at Cece's house in the Hamptons with Dan and Eric.
In London, Jenny finds her place almost immediately, finds her people, including a girl with purple hair who Jenny instantly becomes inseparable with.
Jenny hadn't kissed anybody since that cursed night, but when the girl with the purple hair kisses her, Jenny finally gets what her minions back at Constance were always talking about.
Jenny still has years of comphet to work through though and takes several internet "Am I Gay" quizzes and has multiple phone calls with Eric before finally figuring out that, yes she is fully gay, no she's not really attracted to men, yes she does want the girl with the purple hair to be her girlfriend.
They don't make it to the end of freshman year but a whole new world is opened up for Jenny.
After she graduates, I do think she would head back to New York actually, and take a job with some major designer, maybe even under Eleanor at Waldorf Designs.
But, in her late 20s or so, she finally does what she's always been building towards, and starts her own fashion design company.
She makes the Vogue Spring issue on her 30th birthday.

put a "∞" in my ask box and I'll shuffle my music player and give you my favorite lyric from the song that comes up.
AAAAAH CONGRATS ON 1K OMG I AM SO INSANELY HAPPY FOR U
for the ask game thing (what do we even call them??) insert heart emoji here
and insert bear emoji here : (i don't remember which shows we have in common so im just gonna list three of the pairing discourses im most curious about haha) dan&blair or nate&serena (from gossip girl) and jughead&veronica or betty&archie (from riverdale) or stefan&elena or stefan&caroline
okay that's it i think HAHA ANYWAY CONGRATS ON THE MILESTONE U DESERVE EVERYTHING AND MORE
thank you so much! since i'm not in the gossip girl, riverdale or vampire diaries fandom, but i have watched them, i'll give my opinion! dan and blair because they look good together + they really cared for each other. betty and archie because i waited for them to get together for a VERY long time. stefan and elena because i really liked them as a pairing but i didn't really care for caroline and stefan.
i followed you because i like reading your opinions <3 we've been mutuals for a pretty long time now!
HI I know we're not moots or anything but i will also happily talk boys and romance with you it's my favourite thing to talk about HAHA
hi yes of course we can chat about boys and romance!!! I just have issues with both sksksksk
omg i need to know more about the jenate endgame fic now!!!!!!!!
hahahaha absolutely!
it's titled as such in my docs bc I'd thought about the story idea for a while, and then some antis were about on the tumblr and they sent me over the edge.
it IS a jenate fic, in that they are a central component, but it's a Blair pov with an ultimate dair endgame (bc of course). Though, I do have an idea for a Jenny POV within the universe, because I cannot help but put the companion piece before the horse.
It's mostly canon compliant, well, as canon compliant as I can stand to be. No Gossip!Dan, and it begins when Dan and Serena get engaged, because Jenny and Nate reconnect at the engagement party, but the wedding doesn't happen.
So basically it is: the crumbling of chair and derena, witnessed by through Blair's pov, with jenate as sort of the emotional anchor. It's about Blair turning to Nate as Her Person (tm), because neither Serena nor Dan have the capacity to be there for her, and because Nate and Jenny became a package deal, she and Jenny become each other's people too.
I haven't written that much of it down, but I've thought about it a LOT, because it's a really music-led fic (musician!Humphreys my beloved) and I am that bitch who has headphones on basically any time I leave the house. The musician component is basically that as adults, Jen uses songwriting as therapy, and Dan picks up work as a session player between books when he's stuck (and HOOO boy is he stuck), and music is made, built basically around the songwriting of one Susan O'Neill, who to me, just sounds like Jenny Humphrey, both her physical voice and her songwriting voice. There's also lots of Nate just living his best "My girlfriend is so talented and powerful and I'm literally just here to hold her purse and take photos for her insta" life.
3, 6, 14, 15!!!!!
3. What are your most used/most popular additional tags on Ao3? (You can find them under the filters on your works/bookmarks.)
Believe it or not, canon compliant??? That does not sound like me lol. I think it's cause of the Pearl Jam trauma series lol.
6. Opinions on the 5 + 1 theme?
Eh. Sometimes it's done really well. A lot of times it's not. Again, one of those things that depends on the author.
14. What is something that you refuse to write? (No need to elaborate.)
Answered here.
15. Do you go unbeta-ed, or do you have to have someone read over your stuff because you’re too scared to?
Unbeta-ed. Fanfic writing is supposed to be my fun stress relief thing, I don't do multiple drafts and stuff. And part of what I do for a living is meticulously proof read so I feel comfortable doing that part myself.
Fire in the Water (Chapter 19)
Story Notes:
Focal ship: Lucas/Maya (slow burn ish)
Rating: Mature/Teen & Up
19: Between the Carrot & the Stick (Zay POV)
Excerpt:
Zay didn’t want to worry his parents so he did what he could to not cause them alarm. Well, he tried. The way he looked and the way he talked was too much for some people. But he’d been safe. He’d kept his nose clean. He had some really good friends. And he followed one of them to New York (after his dad got transferred), where the way he looked and the way he talked wasn’t much of an issue anymore. He somehow just blended in with everyone else, and in time he forgot to be aware of what he was doing in sight of others. His parents didn’t seem concerned about him there either. That was the problem with feeling safe. New York City was a minefield of criminal activity, and yet the first time Zay crossed paths with it was Tuesday in the so-called safety zone that was his school.
Or, read from the beginning...
