anyways!!!! it is time for you to dare with the class (3 other people) your full thoughts on jenate. because I may know them. but everyone else deserves too because your mind and how you describe things is amazing. plus, we need some positivity!!!! and you're the only one who gets me.

I think one of the most important things to understand about Nate is that he's a liar and a coward. and I mean that earnestly. he allows others to make choices for him, he lets other people's opinions sway his easily, he constantly laments about wanting more while doing very little to genuinely achieve that. an important thing to understand about Jenny is that she is very much Not like that. she is, arguably, the farthest one can get from that. most of her time onscreen is dedicated to her scraping and clawing her way towards a goal of some kind. they approach situations very differently, and they have very differing baseline mentalities. all that to say, they both really like each other, and they both handle that in their own unique, fucked up ways. Jenny becomes Manipulation Incarnate, which is fine because really she should be killing people, and Nate becomes proficient at mental gymnastics and quitting while he's ahead, which he'll continue to do, to his own detriment, for the entirety of the series. they're both fundamentally incompatible at the stage of their lives that they meet in, and yet they're constantly in each other's emotional orbit because they're always some brand of Secret Friends or Infatuated Secret Lovers or Inappropriately Close Platonic Friends, and they make that MY problem by doing it right in front of me. I think that, ultimately, what I like about them is that they totally Could have an uncomplicated relationship, they just inexplicably choose to make it way weirder than it needs to be. and also they don't think that it's weird. and nobody in the audience does either because while Nate is actually pretty strange and also awful in a lot of the same ways that everyone else around him is, he's also about as intriguing as a brick wall. #I Have A Normal Relationship With My Ex-Girlfriend. #No It's Not Weird That I'm All Up In Her Business And Also Let Her Stay The Night At My Place Alone While She Wears My Shirt And Little Else. #Yes I Have A Girlfriend. #Duh??

i usually hate the homewrecker/cheating trope and it was a huge character assassination for jenny but also. objectively funny and very endearing how unhinged she was about it like yes girl go after your stepsisters boyfriend!!!
