Mielikki – The Finnish goddess of forests and the hunt

Mielikki is the mother of the forest and is mentioned in various stories as the wife or daughter-in-law of the forest god Tapio and as the mother of Nyyrikki and Tuulikki. She is said to have played a central role in the creation of the bear.

In Finland, there are several myths about how the bear was born. According to the legend forest goddess, Mielikki wanted to create a creature who was both beloved and feared. She travelled to the constellation of Ursa Major and returned to the earth bringing magical ingredients with her, from which the bear was born. Mielikki became the Emuu of the bear. Bear is therefore always protected by forest and nature spirits. According to some myths both Mielikki and her spouse, the forest god Tapio had the ability to shape-shift themselves into bears.

Mielikki is known as a skillful healer who heals the paws of animals who have escaped traps, helps chicks that have fallen from their nests and treats the wounds of wood grouses after their mating displays. She knows well the healing herbs and will also help humans if they know well enough to ask her for it. Her name is derived from the old Finnish word mielu which means luck.

Emuu means a mythological origin mother of an animal or plant species. The emuu has given birth to or created a certain species, and is responsible for its actions and for taking care of it.

The Mielikki Mons, a mountain on Venus, is named after her.

ミエリッキ 〜 フィンランドの森と狩りの女神

ミエリッキは森の母であり、様々な物語で森の神タピオの妻または嫁、またニャイリッキとトゥーリッキの母として言及されている。彼女は熊の誕生に中心的な役割を果たしたと言われている。

フィンランドには、熊の誕生にまつわるいくつかの神話がある。森の女神ミエリッキは、愛されながら恐れられる生き物を作りたいと考えていた。彼女はおおぐま座に行き、魔法の材料を持って地上に戻り、そこからクマが生まれた。ミエリッキは熊のエミュウとなった。そのため、熊は常に森と自然の精霊に守られている。ミエリッキとその配偶者である森の神タピオは、熊に変身する能力を持っていたとする神話もある。

エミュウとは、神話に登場する動物や植物の母を意味する。エミュウは、ある種を産み、創り出し、その行動と世話に責任を持つ。

ミエリッキは、罠から逃げ出した動物の足を癒し、巣から落ちたヒナを助け、交尾を終えたキジバトの傷を治療する、巧みなヒーラーとして知られている。彼女は癒しのハーブを熟知しており、人間が彼女に依頼するほど熟知していれば、人間も助けてくれるだろう。彼女の名前は、フィンランド語で幸運を意味する「ミエロ」に由来している。

金星のミエリッキ・モンズは彼女の名にちなんで名づけられた。

Anito - Nature Spirits, Aminist Beliefs of Ancient Filipinos

Anito is used to refer to spirits, deceased ancestors, nature-spirits nymphs and diwatas. Ancient Filipinos kept statues to represent these spirits, ask guidance and magical protection. Trees, rocks, bodies of water, and animals were believed to be animated by an anito. Pre-colonial Filipinos were animistic. They believed that everything has a spirit, from trees and rocks to animals and humans to natural phenomena.

It can also refer to carved humanoid figures, the taotao, made of wood, stone, or ivory, that represent these spirits. Anito is also sometimes known as diwata in certain ethnic groups.

Animist beliefs involve both the observed physical world and the unseen spirit world. What happens in one world, affects the other. In the seen world, nature is believed to be alive. Trees, caves, mountains, rocks and lakes are often viewed as sacred places where engkanto, or anitos dwell.  Animals may also be embodiments of spirits. They believed that everything was connected and that you could not take away without giving back. They created a sustainable life in their surroundings.

Pag-anito refers to a séance, often accompanied by other rituals or celebrations, in which a shaman acts as a medium to communicate directly with the spirits. The act of worship or a religious sacrifice to a spirit is also sometimes simply referred to as anito. In most Filipino ethnic groups, the shaman was almost always a woman. The few men who achieved shaman status usually dressed as women and lived as women (even if married to men).

The major Pag Anito rituals are centred around seances. Because of their special relationship with their fellow spirits, the shaman acts as a medium for other anitos, allowing the spirits to temporarily possess a body. This possession occurs after the shaman has entered a trance-like state. This allows the spirituality to be communicated verbally with the participants, as well as physically enacting events in the spiritual world. At the moment of occupation, shamans display changes in behaviour and voice. They sometimes have fits and become violent to the point of needing to be restrained. The ritual ends when the spirit leaves and the shaman wakes up.

アニト〜自然の精霊たち、古代フィリピン人のアミニズムの信仰

アニトは、精霊、亡くなった先祖、自然の精霊であるニンフ、ディワタなどを指す言葉として使われる。古代フィリピン人は、これらの精霊を象徴する像を置き、導きと魔法の保護を求めた。 木、岩、水、動物などは、アニトによって動かされると信じられていた。植民地時代以前のフィリピン人は霊的存在への信仰(ｱﾆﾐｽﾞﾑ)であった。木や岩、動物や人間、自然現象など、すべてのものに魂が宿っていると考えていた。

また、これらの精霊を象徴する木、石、象牙などで作られた人型の彫刻「タオタオ」を指すこともある。また、アニトは、特定の民族ではディワタと呼ばれることもある。

アニミズムの信仰には、観察された物理的な世界と目に見えない霊的な世界の両方が関わっている。一方の世界で起こったことは、もう一方の世界にも影響を及ぼす。目に見える世界では、自然は生きていると信じられている。 木、洞窟、山、岩、湖は、しばしばエンカント、またはアニトたちが住む神聖な場所とみなされている。 動物もまた、精霊の具現化である場合がある。彼らは、すべてがつながっており、お返しをしない限り奪うことはできないと信じていた。 彼らは、周囲の環境の中で持続可能な生活を営んでいた。

パグアニトとは、しばしば他の儀式や祝典を伴う降霊会のことで、シャーマンが霊と直接交信するための媒体として機能するものである。また、精霊への崇拝や宗教的な犠牲の行為を単にアニトと呼ぶこともある。大多数のフィリピンの民族グループでは、シャーマンは選ばれた存在であり、ほとんど常に女性であった。 シャーマンの地位を獲得した少数の男性は、通常、女性の格好をして、たとえ男性と結婚しても、女性として生活していた。

シャーマンは、仲間の精霊と特別な関係にあるため、他のアニトの媒介者として機能し、精霊が一時的に身体に憑依することを許可する。この憑依は、シャーマンがトランス状態になった後に行われる。そのため、霊的なことを参加者に言葉で伝えることができ、また、霊界の出来事を物理的に再現することができる。憑依の瞬間、シャーマンは行動や声の変化を見せる。彼らは時々発作を起こし、拘束する必要があるほど暴力的になる。儀式は、霊が去り、シャーマンが目を覚ますと終了する。

Druantia - Gallic tree goddess, guardian of trees and forests

Druantia is the Celtic tree goddess of trees. Her name is believed to be derived from the Celtic word for oak trees, ‘drus’ or ‘deru’. She is known as "Queen of the Druids (Ref)". She is a goddess of fertility for both plants & humans, ruling over sexual activities & passion. She also rules protection of trees, knowledge, creativity.

Described as a tall lady with thick, wheat-yellow hair, wearing a golden crown, a green silk dress and green cape with a golden brooch. Wherever she passes she leaves the fragrance of cut grass.

She is a triple goddess of fir trees. She is credited with creating the Celtic tree calendar, which divides the year into 13 months that correspond to the cycles of the moon. The Druids later associated this calendar with the Oghamic alphabet (Ref2), created by the god Ogma of the Tuatha and Danann, possessor of eloquence and artistic inspiration.

ドルアンティア 〜 ガリアの樹木の女神、木と森の守護神

ドルアンティアはケルト神話の樹木の女神である。彼女の名前は、ケルト語で樫の木を意味する’drus’または’deru’に由来するとされ、「ドルイド(参照)の女王」として知られている。植物と人間の豊穣を司る女神で、性行為と情熱を支配する。また、樹木の保護、知識、創造性を司る。

背が高く、小麦色の太い髪を持ち、黄金の冠をかぶり、緑の絹のドレスと黄金のブローチをつけた緑のマントを身につけた女性として描かれている。彼女が通るところには、刈り取られた草の香りが残されている。

モミの木の三女神であり、月の周期に対応して1年を13ヶ月に分割する「ケルトの木の暦」を作ったとされている。ドルイドは後にこの暦を、雄弁と芸術的インスピレーションを持つトゥアタ・デー・ダナンの神オグマが作ったオガム文字（参照）と関連づけた。
