THEORY TIME!
It's been less than 24 hours since seeing movie and I have A THOUGHT.
Okay, so I love Mae's character, but she seems unlikable. And I'm not meaning to the audience, I'm talking with other characters. You see her interact with apes and a human and she seems so detached to both. Apes, we understand, but with the only human character she interacts with she still seems guarded. Sure, Trevathan did not align with her mission, but from the get go she doesn't seem to enthused that she is meeting him.
I have a theory that maybe Mae doesn't really fit in with humans. They don't let her into the bunker at the end of the movie. (Although that could be for safety reasons.) Maybe her completing this mission to help humanity is her trying to form a connection with them. Her mother is long gone and we don't really see her having any other human relationships. (Yet)
What if, in this trilogy, Mae learns she is more connected to apes than with humans? Noa and Raka are the first apes to be nice to her. Originally, she didn't want to put the Eagle Clan in danger. I truly believe she was going to help them, had the plan gone right. And she saved Soona, an ape she had just met. If she finds she cares for the apes genuinely and cares to help humans to get in their good graces, which do you think she would choose?
I hope that this story ends up being a tale if found family. Something that can answer the question if Apes and Humans can exist together.

“Trevathan?”
“Yes, Caesar?”
“What is “tooth” in latin?”
“Dens, Caesar.”
Proximus frowns. “Dense? Same as "stupid"?”
Trevathan knew if he chuckled now, the Caesar would misinterpret it, even if it was in genuine delight and not ridicule.
“No, Caesar, it's uh... different spelling.”
“Hmpf.”
Proximus strokes his injured finger as you sit at his feet, Sylva in the process of removing your muzzle to give you a drink of water. Then the Caesar smirks, one fang showing.
“Dens is a fine name for her, yes?”
Apetober day 8!

Kingdom of the planet of the apes (2024)
How do you think Proximus Caesar really felt about Trevathan? A friend? A pet? A slave?
Trevathan said Proximus Caesar found him injured and now look at his fancy little private room/prison. He’s well taken care of and it seems like during dinner they were having a good time.
Is it all an act each one is putting on?
Proximus Caesar clearly hates humans, but he admires them.
Trevathan has to not only accept human’s roles in present time, but embraces them. He’s got a good thing going.
I think Proximus and Trevathan are supposed to mirror Noa and Mae.
During the dinner scene Proximus says "a human and ape traveling together. Quite the adventure isn't it?" And he looks at Trevathan who laughs. Which could mean that they too traveled together. I believe Trevathan was open to the idea of Apes ruling the world and didn't mind giving Proximus knowledge. (Meanwhile Mae is against sharing anything that could benefit apes more)
I think Trvathan is AWARE that he could be a means to an end but he's given up on the idea that humans could reclaim a thing so he's helping Proximus anyway. I think he genuinely wants to see how far Proximus and the apes will go.
Idk if Proximus would kill Trevathan in the end because that's kinda predictable af and 😴😴😴😴but it would be interesting to have him live (if Proximus won). In a way its also a parallel to how Red was with AO. "Traitor to their own kind." Jazz.
So have proximus and trevathan explored each others bodies or…
