Soooo~ yesterday I decided to download a couple of books on Portuguese history and culture for some ✨ light reading ✨ And I couldn't help but identify numerous similarities (much to my delight) between Trevo's and Lunie's headcanons ( a, b, c, d, e ) and the writing in this book:
It's a lovely introduction to the ins and outs of Portuguese culture. It packs the perfect amount of information to pique your interest, but not enough to satisfy you completely (which is why I'm moving on to Saramago's "Journey to Portugal" and Disney's "A History of Portugal and the Portuguese Empire" 👀).
Here are some of my favorite paragraphs:
This one below makes me laugh every time. Visualizing old man Port complaining about his aches to anyone who will listen 😅 (as if Romanians don't do the same)
And of course, his famous dark humor, Saudade, and thoughts on working and the outside world. Ngl, as a Romanian person, I relate so much to the paragraph on hypocrisy. I don't think there's a nosier and more gossip-prone nation in Europe than us.@friendlyneighbourhoodromanian can confirm.
Port and his secret obsession with Brazilian telenovelas
Port and his reckless driving 🙈
Port and his warm demeanor once you move past the formalities ❤Reading this book while picturing @reallunargift's fan art was so entertaining ❤ I recommend it to anyone who's interested in Portuguese culture and looking for a starting point.
