Also my mew really didn't treat Mewtwo badly in my au. I go with the anime version of mew whereas instead of her treating Mewtwo like he was a fake copy like in the manga, she tried to get him to see reason, where it doesn't matter if their clones or originals, they're still living creatures and that a true pokemon's strength comes from the heart. She did still fight him though, so I guess she's held accountable for that lol

marco's cheek marks are because the mewmans were originally humans and magic leaves a Mark. marco has spent a lot of time with star and being exposed to magic, he even wielded the wand. given more time and exposure the marks would have probably been permanent.

This really isn’t made obvious at all. Yes, humans and mewmans are related, but humans also don’t go through mewberty. Mewberty was supposed to be ‘normal’ for a mewman girl, as Star said, but is later only really shown to affect the royal ladies. The cheek marks are also only shown on royal ladies

The whole show basically points at Mewman Royalty = Bug Form + Cheek Marks

And, yeah, they obviously have to do with magic, since Star lost her’s (which... I think was a bad idea in the end) but we never see anyone related to magic with cheek marks besides the royalty. So, within the episode, it’s more implied to be soul-binding magic affecting him, rather than using magic in a more general sense. Marco even mentions it after touching the wand, which means we’re supposed to be aware of it during his actions/the wand’s actions

Mewmans coming from humanity is a fact we learn about the world very late, which means it’s either a revelation or a fun fact. Marco’s dismissed, so it seems more like a fun fact of the world that doesn’t really change anything we know

So... Yeah, cheek marks are something magical. But we never see anybody but royalty with them. Mina doesn’t have them, despite being magically infused. No other mewmans or monsters or even magical beings have them

If it were ‘just a magic mark in general’, we should’ve seen it somewhere outside of the Butterfly family, otherwise it’s going to be associated with Butterflys
