How does your character get along with their father/mother/spouse/children?
Andris holds a civil relationship with his parents. It is strictly out of respect that he does. He has long since sworn off from seeing them as anything other than the ‘people who raised him’. The lack of love and warmth in the household has changed how he perceives them.
Were your character’s parents supportive?
No. King Aurél and Queen Nora have often displayed support in meager doses. Even then, the support only appears out of pitting him towards his sister, in a bid to ‘improve’ him. Their disapproval is louder than the support that they dole out. They look down on many aspects of his life, including his lifestyle.
How do you think your character’s relationship with their family affects their other relationships?
Emotional connections and bonds - one that should exist naturally between families - do not run in the Kardos clan. It is known internally that the King and Queen’s arranged marriage has never blossomed into love. Their arrangement is that strictly of a business-like, ruler relations.
As such, Andris is forced to seek out the attention he had been deprived of. The lack of love or any form of emotional bonds has him welcoming any and all sorts of attention that come his way. Whether the nature be sexual or genuine, he revels in it.
He does not believe in one ‘source’ of attention, as he was raised by his parents to believe that emotions shift over time, and never lasts. His parents’ lack of love attests to it. Thus, he also has a hard time maintaining a monogamous viewpoint in his current relationship.
Does your character get along with their siblings?
No. Yes. The true relationship between Andris and his sister, Petra, is blurry. Their parents often pit them against one another, even so much as threatening the crown prince that they could force him to abdicate the throne in order for his sister to reap the rewards. Petra has since clung onto the idea that the throne is truly meant for her, as opposed to her brother.
Since their childhood, they have been in a non-stop competition with each other.
What’s something you’ve learned from your parents that you carry for life?
Andris has learned that: emotions have only caused him nothing but grief; logic should reign amongst anything else; and love never truly lasts, and is but a fleeting moment of rush.
