oh since my other pr 2017 post is still getting notes i have more thoughts

someone described trini as being "gay for pay" rep in a video because of the bonfire scene, saying that it "doesn't count" bc it's such a small scene (my thoughts: and that can be conveniently cut out when aired in anti-lgbt countries), but i kinda disagree with the idea that her small moment of being able to allude to being queer (or even the possibility that she's not sure, having never dated either boys or girls, because she's afraid to explore a queer identity, since her parents believe in labels and want her to have the "normal one") isn't real rep or good enough. the scene is still important, as it's trini showing vulnerability with a group of people she's growing closer to despite being "the new girl, always" and never really making connections with others before this.

that, and the fact this was supposed to be a series of movies, not a single standalone "origin story" movie, so they were likely going to explore trini's queer identity as the story progressed and give it a spotlight.. but we'll never know, since we never got those movies.
