Pre-Philippines, Part 3: Packing & Stuff
Packing is always hard and I’m always tempted to wait until the last minute, but I’m packed at least 2 days in advance now because I had to buy some new stuff.
Some essentials:
Baby wipes
Toilet paper
Light, flow-y dresses and shirts
Sunscreen, bug spray, aloe vera (I still need more, honestly)
Instant coffee, electrolyte powder
Rain poncho
Sunscreen
My hair will probably be in braids for the…

Musique du Jour: 3/26/15
I’m slowly starting to ease into my Spring Break and the strange mix of productivity and lack of productivity, though it’s more than half way over so that’s a bummer. :P I leave for Boston on Saturday evening and I’ll get back ery late on Monday: as a heads up, I will be bringing my laptop, so I should be able to post stuff (reblog things, post pics of my travels).
Now to resume my Grad School/ Music Conservatory research, practice choir music (I haven’t looked at it at all since I started break and it feels AWESOME), and finish packing for my trip. Thanks so much for following. :3

Trip Packing How to Be Smart About it
If you’re smart, the reason you work is to travel.
Traveling is one of the most exhilarating feelings you will ever experience. Every trip is a new adventure, even if you go to the same place. You meet new people, discover new ideas and find out about yourself, all at the same time. The world is your oyster, and no matter what you do, you don’t have the typical restrictions of everyday life.
The only question is, how can you smart on you trip packing for said adventure. Luggage is a close second in terms of traveling to ambition. If you pack too light, you won’t have the necessary equipment for an optimal experience. If you pack too heavy, you will be held back from what you could do otherwise.
No matter where you go, trip packing is crucial for enjoyment. Here are a few steps on how to pack for a trip:
Trip Packing Starts with Research
You should heavily research wherever you plan on going. Trip Packing is never objective, but it is formulaic in a sense. If you’re going to Russia in the winter you’re not going to take too many pairs of shorts, but if you’re going to Brazil in the summer you’re probably not going to pack too many jackets. Figure out exactly what you want out of your trip, see what you will be doing and pack accordingly.
Ask around
Regardless of where you are going, there is probably someone you know that has been there and done that. Sit down and talk to them. Ask them what they did, how they did it and what they needed in order to accomplish that task. You might be surprised at what they figured out midway through their expedition that they wished they would have known at the beginning.
Make a list
Before you start your trip packing expedition, make a list of everything you might need. Take the knowledge that you have obtained from researching and asking people, then write it down in one exact, easy to read document. You are bound to forget something, so make the list a few days ahead of time so you can revise and add to it.
Cut back
When you are packing, figure out where you can cut back. There are bound to be things that you think you need that you actually don’t—for instance, that fourth jacket that you might need one day, but probably won’t. Everyone always tends to over pack, especially for a big trip. Set a goal for your luggage and don’t go over. If you have a 50 pound limit, keep it to 50 pounds.
Pack and organize
Trip Packing is like a game of Tetris—you need every piece of space you can possibly afford, and wasted space can lead to your destruction. Decide what type of bag you will need, whether it is a roller bag, a backpack or a regular, handheld suitcase. Understand your limits, then push them. You would be surprised at how much you can actually fit in your suitcase.
You will be living out of your suitcase for a given amount of time, so choose wisely. Take the essentials, leave room for taking things back, and enjoy yourself.
What are your trip packing tips?
