Hello :) I've got a question! Hope I do not look too naive but I wanted some advice for a travel in Nepal that I'm currently planing. What are the most importants things to do before going to Nepal? Thanks :)
I’m a little unsure about your wording - do you want to know where to go / what to do or are you just meaning general packing and booking things? I guess I’ll do a little of both here so you can respond with whichever you intended :)
Nepal is a country that is dense with things to do and experience. Even after staying for 3 months, I definitely have some things I want to return to do. Generally I feel NEPAL can be split into 2 categories for most of it: natural and cultural stuff. I’d advise you think about the types of things you’d like to do - maybe even do a few quick google searches and just see what is recommended in both of those categories. If you want to do more trekking or safari stuff, just search places like Lonely Planet forums, TripAdvisor, etc. You don’t have to follow these to a “T” (I never did), but it can be helpful for inspiration.
After you start figuring out the places that sound nice, give yourself a vague plan (stay here 2 days, go on this trek for one week, rest day, get on the bus to here the next day, etc). Especially if you’re only going to be visiting for a short time, it’s nice to have a “plan” that you can easily change while you’re in Nepal. Have an idea, but also make it flexible. Nepal does not run on Western time, so some things (like transport) will take way longer than you may be used to.
After this, start packing your bags with the places you want to go in mind. Going to the jungle? Probably bring some insect repellant, waterproof / quick dry clothes, and dark colors (no red, no white, no orange - it makes the wildlife nervous!). For the mountains, take a comfy jacket that will keep you warm at higher altitudes, and good hiking boots. I’d highly advise to get iodine tablets or some other water filtration system for a water bottle - this is both convenient for you (if you purify the water you have water everywhere, usually free, which saves loads of $ and time) and is also environmentally friendly! Just keep in mind the places you’re going and pack accordingly! Try to keep the weight of your pack around 10kg or less; you are not going to want too much more than that.
Finally, don’t be shy!! Ask people online (like you did just now) and ask locals when you get there! Getting out of your comfort zone and talking to people will always, always expand your mind and your experience :)
Hope that answered the question; if not, send me another!
