Hawaii Day 5
July 12th, 2014
We wake up early in the morning. Although a bit difficult to get out of bed, we struggle (mostly me) and make our way to some unfamiliar shops. We've tasted top of the line coconut brownies and super kick-ass shortbread. Taking a bunch of treats for home, we set off in another direction, pursuing Aloha shirts. There, Alan and I learned of a lot of the history of Hawaii. We even got "lei'd" when we entered the store as well! It was great bonding together with the Hilo Circle K-ers. We traveled to the other side of the big island, and discovered many pretty sights. We toured around, stopped by for a quick lunch, ventured around a farmer's market, and finally, made a trip to the beach. Some of us came completely unprepared, forgetting our sunscreen, towels, and swimming trunks, but we crashed the waves anyway and sought excitement. What a great experience it was, but we knew in our hearts that our time here was coming to an end. That moment, we all were there, representing our District as board members, but we were also there as friends. Bonding together with the board alongside fellow Circle K members was something that we all didn't expect. I felt as if I suddenly knew why last year's District Representatives were so happy that the trip had happened. There truly is no experience like visiting Hawaii and their Circle K members. It's a lifestyle, a culture, and on top of all that, service to your community. It's fellowship, as well as leadership. It shows that Circle K and it's motives can be the same, anywhere in the world. It's experiences like these that make me realize how great of an organization Circle K really is. Thank you for this wonderful day. Even though our journey comes to a close, all great things must end someday. Tomorrow, will be a day of service.
