OK I’m going to go on about my school for a few minutes, sorry.
I got to a middle college with 60 kids. That’s it. That’s all of us. And we have rivalries and issues with each other-so does every school. But in tie, we get over it.
OK, so maybe not completely, but some.
But I digress. I was going through my bestie’s facebook today, and I saw pictures posted from my old school. And it really took me a moment to think about why was she at my school? And then it hit me. She still has brothers in an ‘opposing’ school system who play my old school. But because we went to school together for a year, it didn’t even occur to me that we lived in different school districts-hell, different towns. It doesn’t occur to me, because we all go to the same place. And that sense of community is something we pride ourselves on. The ability to work together cohesively, with so many different backgrounds and family situations, is something my school us HUGE on. We have days that are required to participate in. They’re called Middle Program days-and we work together, mixed teams, and we play games and whatever. But the end of the day is best, because usually it’s a half day when the college is closed, so we have full run of it, so we have a potluck. My principal, who I’m on a first-name basis with and debate (talk shit) about hockey with (he likes the bruins-just look at my icon...), usually brings in buffalo chicken pasta, or as one of last year’s teachers called it, his ‘damn buffalo chicken pasta’. I discovered my school absolutely LOVES my baked mac&cheese reipe, and there’s one girl who absolutely loves to bake cupcakes.
There’s always something interesting going on, and if there’s not, there’s the little stuff like after school on fridays, when everyone who waits around converges in the main admin office, picks some floorspace, and bullshits. Or after school other days, when we all just hang around to BS with our teachers. Or like me and the english teacher. She calls me minion, so now i do Minion Chaos Friday, where i continually hide one of the McDonald’s Minion toys around her office and her room. We sometimes have alumni come in, whether to do work or just visit and catch up, and we always love seeing them because to us, their who we are now, and we see how far they’ve gone. My best friend also got her dream job and found her career because of being here. I’ve developed the strongest friendships I can find because of this school. I’ve had a hell of a week, and being here really picked me up and made me feel better after just a few hours.
