Dear baddies, please meet ✨The NightBringers ✨ <333
A/n: So this is my new Trollhunters fanfic I’m writing as a challenge to myself this year before school starts! This is a whole ass AU where Morgana has her own amulet and champion— I’m just genuinely so excited and share this fanfic I’ve been wanting to write for YEARS!
Eternal Champion (Reader)
You’ve picked up little habits from your team — Eli’s habit of scribbling notes, Skyren’s cocky smirk, Varkun’s slow, evaluating stares.
You don’t fully trust the Trollhunter team yet, but you can’t deny they’re… competent.
Becoming the NightBringer was never your choice — you carry the weight like armor, heavy and unshakable.
Sometimes Morgana’s voice feels less like guidance and more like a chain.
You still dream about the day everything changed, and sometimes you wake up unsure if you’re still you.
You’ve started keeping people at arm’s length — even your team — because you’re afraid of losing them like you’ve lost others.
When the Trollhunter team looks in your direction, you sense the distrust they feel for you. It makes you feel so empty knowing that all you want is to protect people and your friends and others think your intentions are different.
You always make sure everyone in your team has eaten before you do — Varkun says it’s “good leadership,” but really it’s just habit.
You collect odd little things during missions to give to your team — shiny rocks for Eli, bright feathers for Skyren, bits of old metal for Varkun to tinker with.
Despite your title, you have a soft spot for harmless creatures, and Skyren has caught you whispering to baby fawns more than once.
When someone you care about is hurt, your voice drops to a gentle tone, even if you’re panicking inside. The feeling of guilt eating you alive.
Always has his notebook on him, stuffed with loose pages, doodles, and “classified” mission notes that only he can understand.
Refuses to admit when he’s scared, instead masking it with humor or wildly overexplaining things.
Has a habit of pointing at something dangerous and saying, “We should totally check that out.”
Has a knack for finding the weirdest magical junk during missions — half of it’s useless, but he’s proud of every find.
Deep down, he worries he’s not useful enough to the team, especially compared to you and Skyren.
His curiosity has gotten you guys in trouble before, and he carries that guilt even if he hides it under enthusiasm.
Hates feeling left out of serious planning sessions, but sometimes stays quiet to avoid slowing the team down.
If someone insults you during school, he takes it more personally than if they insult him. Ever since he’s meet you he’s become a better version of himself and he absolutely admires you for helping him.
Brings snacks to missions — not just for himself, but for everyone — and pretends it’s “purely for moral support.”
Gives his finds (like shiny rocks or odd trinkets) to you and it makes him really happy when he finds them on a dresser in your room.
Talks your ear off about the “latest weird theory” but will happily switch topics if he sees you’re stressed.
Calls Varkun “big guy” or “stone dad” as a joke, but there’s affection in it.
Thinks Skyren’s ridiculous flirting is hilarious, even if he pretends to roll his eyes at it.
Varkun SharpFang; A Rouge Troll
Towering, broad, and seemingly made of pure stone, but his presence is more protective than intimidating when he’s with his kids people.
Has a slow, deliberate way of speaking — when Varkun talks, people listen. And if they don’t then he obviously sees that they aren’t with his time.
Rarely rushes into battle unless it’s to shield someone; prefers strategy and positioning over brute force… unless brute force is necessary.
Collects old, battered weapons — each one has a story he’ll tell if you ask.
Treats Eli like a reckless hatchling and Skyren like a buzzing insect he can’t quite swat away. (He secretly cares for them deeply)
Fears failing to protect you guys more than death itself.
Sometimes sees you as too young to be burdened with the NightBringer title — but doesn’t say it outright.
When he was outcasted by trollmarket he felt like he would never know the feeling of having a family again and that almost broke him.
Calls you “little one” without a trace of condescension — it’s pure affection.
Fixed and maintains everyone’s weapons and armor without being asked.
Keeps watch while yall rest up, claiming he “doesn’t need as much rest,” though he does it so the rest of you feel safe.
Has an unexpectedly warm chuckle that only comes out when Skyren or Eli are bickering
Skyren Ohsama; Highfae Fairy
Skyren has the confidence of someone who knows he’s charming — and uses it shamelessly, even in the middle of tense situations. His charisma has gotten yall outta trouble MANY times.
Loves showing off little bursts of glamour magic, often for no reason other than to annoy Varkun or make Eli jealous.
Collects shiny or unusual items and decorates his tree hut with them.
Has a dangerous mix of agility and unpredictability in a fight; one second he’s behind you, the next he’s in an enemy’s face. He very quick when ending a fight if he’s irritated.
Constantly flirts with anything that breathes (and sometimes things that don’t) — though the tone changes when it’s aimed at someone he actually likes (you!!).
His over-the-top personality is partly armor; it’s easier to make people laugh than let them see him afraid or lonely.
Left his old fairy court on bad terms, and the bridge back has long since burned.
Fears being seen as replaceable, which is why he’s constantly “proving” his worth in ways that can be reckless.
Distrusts most other magic-users, especially ones connected to the Trollhunters’ side — too many have tried to cage him before.
Teases you constantly, but will step in instantly if anyone else tries it in a cruel way.
Gives you flowers that glow or stones that hum when you touch them.
Always notices when you’re upset — and will subtly shift his usual jokes to cheer you up without making it obvious.
In battle, his light magic isn’t just for offense; he uses it to guide you and keep you from losing your way. Noticed on multiple occasions that you’re sorta scared of the dark.
