Just picture a typical Trollwakening group of young Trolls approacing their flowering, diving off this pier (underwater, mind you, and wearing but themselves) to the bottom of this pond in the interest of finding an Inner Troll.

Some unlikely inspiration

From time to time, for the sake of AU vis-a-vis Trollkins, as well as imagining an expanded backstory therefor, I've been known to imagine a "coming-of-age" exercise among young Trolls which I call "Trollwakening" such as would mark passage of the more juvenile sort of Troll into full-blown Trolldom by their learning to more fully recognise the role and place Trolls have in the broader introllconnect with Nature (cf. traditional Troll lore from Germany and Scandinavia, never mind that Trollkins is set somewhere in an isolated backwater of the American South).

You might like to know that much of the Trollwakening concept draws inspiration from the East German ritual of passage from the juvenile more towards adulthood, otherwise known in the German as Jugendwerhe ("youth initiation"), which, though associated with the 1949-89 period of Communist rule in East Germany (or, to use its official stylee, the "German Democratic Republic"), actually goes back to Freethinker types and first saw the light of day in 1852 as a secular alternative to the Christian rite of Confirmation towards such an end; the thinking behind Jugendwerhe being one of expecting Youth to experience the transition to adulthood without having to be subjected to a strait-laced religious ur-orthodoxy, expecting such to start thinking for themselves.
