Successful modifications to a Denis Wick practice mute. Although I have moved on to a much better practice mute I still had this mute laying about unused so I thought I would try to improve it to make it useable. Very happy with the results. More natural sound, more even response, more even resistance - all by drilling a new hole (3/8" diameter) in the center of the bowl, taping a 2 3/8" long soda straw (big kind for shakes and malts) inside that new hole, and putting tape over the other two existing holes. Absolutely overjoyed with how well my new sshhmute (a.k.a. Bremner Sshhmute at sshhmute.com) trombone practice mute works! So happy that I thought a demo video would be in order so that my trombone friends who haven't already discovered this mute would quit wasting time and money searching for a good one. This video is mostly about showing how much attenuation is possible with the mute but also how the response is even throughout the entire range. As titled in the video it was recorded through the single AKG Perception 200 large diaphragm condenser microphone without any signal limiting or compression.
