Silence had never been something that Dyson liked.
That's why he'd taken so well to working with his superior in the days before the Occupation – the older program had, more or less, been an endless stream of thoughts, not a single one of them uninteresting. They'd spent their days in the Capitol wandering together, Dyson listening to stories of solar sailers and I/O towers and Tower Guardians, of the conscript programs he never understood, the User whose whims made little to no sense, and the simulations program he dearly loved. It had all been fascinating to Dyson – he often found his own processors whirring away, placing him in such situations, almost like his own sort of personal battle simulator, but much more pleasant.

6) When do you title your fics? Before you write them? As you write them? While posting to AO3 and that “Work Title” field is staring at you?
i usually try to title beforehand, but it doesn’t always work out…
i’m trying to keep a running note of possible song titles and chapter story pairs for my tron fic, but it’s very very lacking thus far lol. i’ve had a few come to me as i’m writing the chapter, a few as i finish, and one or two that come from me scrolling through my main OC’s playlist and picking the most relevant option
12) Do you write in order, jump around the draft, or a mix? Something else?
if i’m working on my (unpublished and untouched sunce october lol) star wars main fic, i tend to jump around and write scenes as they come to me and just leave brackets for later. it helped me write more, but it was incredibly taxing trying to go back and stitch them together and one, keep story continuity and two, actually figure out what the rest of the unwritten gaps were.
for my tron fic, i’m kinda forcing myself to write in order. if i have later ideas, i either jot them down in notes or throw them at my roommate to be retrieved later (or more often, never.) it does mean that i write less consistently, but it kinda helps me keep continuity and keeps me from leaving a gap in a chapter for months while i rush ahead. can’t publish something when it’s full of holes!!
18) If you have noticed themes emerging in your writing, what are they? What broad themes and topics do you enjoy exploring?
oh my gosh, SO many themes…and so many of them are impacted by my own beliefs, both personal and religious, but i love just neatly tucking them in there (CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien are some of the best examples of this, and i love ‘em both to death.)
i love exploring family relationships and what it means to be loved both in that sense and in general. i’ve been so incredibly blessed with a wonderful family, so i’m always adding little bits and pieces of them to my characters and stories.
redemption is another HUGE trope i love – both in terms of finding yourself again after someone’s made you the worst thing you could be, and in terms of someone else looking at you in that state and going “i see you. i know you. i love you. and i am going to save you.”
by far my favorite sort of underlying “theme” that drives every single work (and all of my favorite movies) is simply this:
everything’s gonna go wrong. it’ll all fall apart. life sucks, and it’s terrible, and so many things are gonna fall to pieces, usually all at once. but. everyone’s gonna make it out – not unscathed, but with important lessons learned and lasting changes made. but everyone will make it out.
22) Do you have a fixed writing routine, or do you write when you have time? Is there a time of day when you prefer to write?
oh, to have a fixed routine…
when i have a job (lol), i tend to try and focus my writing on the weekends so i’m actually getting to bed on time, and so i can do all the other Adult Tasks That Suck such as cleaning, laundry, etc.
i tend to just write when i have time, and if the motivation strikes. i’m usually a late night writer because for some reason, all my prose skills show when i’m either half-asleep or tipsy on whatever i decided to throw together last-minute lol (twining’s peach-orange tea with a touch of honey and a shot of orange liqueur slaps btw)
thought i might should start dropping some tidbits along as i work my way through new chapters so here…2.5k words in and i’m nowhere close to done with this one, so y’all get some snippets to hold you over for the time being lol
