Tent pegging, or pig sticking cup, Bihar Light Horse, 1880 ( c ).
This Indian silver cup, complete with boar's tusk handles, was awarded for section tent pegging, but the scenes depicted on it suggest it was originally intended as a pig sticking trophy.
Tent pegging can take a variety of forms, but usually involves a galloping horse and rider using a sword or lance to strike and pick up a target from the ground. This method of cavalry training has developed over the centuries into an established military sport.
