The memes are funny but as I see it the fact that Trousseau is in Castti's ending picture says more about her character than his. Or specifically, the way she views him. After all she even said she had hoped there was still something of the person he used to be left inside him. Last time she almost died because she tried to reason with him, and if she hadn't lost her memories the story would probably look different, but I don't think part of her ever gave up on him entirely.

This is also why I refuse to believe that the guilt of killing him didn't haunt her. There wasn't really another outcome of the situation, considering that it very much was "it's you or me (and like all of Timberain)". (The only way I'd see Trousseau surviving is if Castti had arrived way earlier, but that's besides the point.) There was no other way and I think she knows that, but she still had to make the decision to give up on him. To deem him beyond saving. She had to do it to save countless others, but that's only a few steps away from what he believed he was doing. She made the decision to end a life, no less the life of someone who used to be such a kind person. Of a friend.

Of the last member of Eir's Apothecaries left, even if the person he used to be was long gone. Maybe. There's no way to find out if it's true now, but maybe part of her actually never stopped seeing him as the gentle man he once was.
