Trouvaille Demo Launch! 23 Feb. 2022

The Trouvaille demo is finally here!

Finally, after hours of hours of procrastinating on my assignments and learning how to code - finding myself in a constant losing battle with choicescript - I have a semi-working demo!

It's super broken with a million and one spelling errors and I'm still learning how I want to do stats, but the game is playable. I just wanted to introduce you lovely people to my writing style, the Curator, Jackie, and the Trouvaille universe.

In this initial launch, you can expect:

DEMO

You are a young, talented Assistant Curator at the Crocker Art Museum located in Sacramento, California. You have just been put in charge of your first exhibition, “Eye of the Beholder,” which is focused around the inexplicable feeling that comes with romanticizing the mundane world around you. The success of this project will prove your passion and dedication to your field, and you feel you’ve really outdone yourself this time.

With the help of a few all-nighters, Red Bull Cold Brews (exactly what it sounds like), and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, a small, lesser-known museum in France has agreed to loan you a statue called “Trouvaille.” The exhibit’s centerpiece is not a particularly famous work. It’s not ethereal like David of Michelangelo nor does it have the historical significance of Venus de Milo, but there’s a human warmth beneath that statue that makes it seem like an immortalization of an old friend or a person you’d meet on the street.

One evening after a particularly traumatizing event, you find yourself seeking out the warmth in Trouvaille’s outstretched hands. The next thing you know, you have a very naked, very familiar person on top of you. You’re left with an amnesiac and an empty pedestal, and all of a sudden, losing your job becomes the least of your concerns.

Love Interests -

Jackie Romero - 23 years old - [m or f] - Your loud, impulsive roommate with a big heart. Jackie has been your ride or die since high school. They’ve stood by you through each and every one of your cringey phases, and while they couldn’t resist making fun of you, they know you like the back of their hand and you’ve never doubted how much they care for you. They are a lean person of Spanish descent. They have green eyes and short black hair (bob for female, short on the sides and long on top for male). Jackie is about 5′8″/173 cm.

“Trouvaille” Name Selectable - [f, m, or nb] - Well, you thought they were - you know - a statue, but clearly that’s no longer the case. Soft-spoken and kind, Trouvaille is the living equivalent of a Disney princess. Animals love them, even the grumpiest person smiles when they walk by, and someone has handed them a baby on more than one occasion. They may have no memory of their life before becoming the statue, but they do their best to thank you for your hospitality while they get their living situation sorted. They have caramel colored hair and eyes, olive skin, and their height is based on gender (f!5′6/168 cm; m!5′10″/178 cm; nb!5′8″/173 cm).

Theodore/Theodosia “Theo” Desrosiers - 28 years old - [m or f] - The owner of a popular nightclub downtown who gives you their contact information one day at the museum. They connect you to Antigone, a taciturn witch specializing in healing magic in hopes that she can lend her aid. Theo is an enjoyer of the “finer things in life” as they say, and they’re rolling in cash to keep up with their lavish lifestyle. They keep their cards close to their chest and are a matchmaker of sorts who makes connections between clients and people of a particular skillset. Although they’re a useful ally, they mostly do things for their own amusement, which makes their allegiance shaky at best. Standing at 6′0″/183 cm regardless of gender, Theo is a native Londoner, audible in their posh accent, they have a rich dark skin, a high nose, and dark eyes framed by long lashes.

Jace Romero - 27 years old - [m] - Jackie’s second oldest brother. You’ve interacted with him more than a few times during your career as Jackie’s closest friend and you can choose whether you’ve developed a crush on him during that time. He’s a firefighter who expects only perfection from himself but is supportive of the people he loves. He has short black hair, hazel eyes, and is 5′11″. The Romero family resemblance is clear, except for the fact that he has his mother's eyes.

Additional Characters -

Antigone Celeste - Physically 24 - [f] - A witch that runs her own apothecary/plant nursery “Ipomoea.” Theo connects you to her in hopes that she can help you out with your predicament. A hardcore introvert, she’s an extremely talented, if not somewhat stoic, healer. Is she rude or is she just candid? You can decide that for yourself. Antigone has warm golden brown skin, mercury gray eyes, and short, wavy black hair. She is a shortie at 5′2″/158 cm, but that little body contains some of the most potent healing magic you’ll ever encounter.

Dakota Park - 25 years old - [m] - It’s unclear what exactly Dak’s species is, since he doesn’t fall into any category you’ve learned and he’s been uncharacteristically closed off about it. He’s a social, fun-loving dork of a guy who is double-majoring in architecture and archaeology. It’s a wonder he still has a will to live while doing so. Even with his busy schedule, he’s the type to drop everything to listen to your problems when you’re having a bad day. Born to a Scandinavian mother and a Korean father, he has medium brown hair, one dark brown eye, one orange eye, and smooth honey toned skin.

Trouvaille

Play as an Assistant Museum curator at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. A statue you've secured for your first exhibition comes to life one night with no memory of who they are or what they used to be. Not only that, but the supernatural world you've read about in storybooks is real and the creatures of that realm have set their sights on you. Focus on survival and find out the reason why you alone could bring Trouvaille to life.

If the Trouvaille cast had to date someone from another IF, who would they choose?

Oh good god that is an awesome question and I spent an absurd amount of time hemming and hawing over it. Note that this is who they'd pick themselves, not necessarily who would suit him the best.

Jackie: Marco from "Blood Moon" by @barbwritesstuff - Jackie appreciates someone who can find some levity in tough situations and it's good for them to have someone as fiercely loyal as they are. Also hot werewolf.

TV: D from "A Tale of Crowns" by @ataleofcrowns - They'd like how strong and stable they are. They’re generally unflappable where TV is extremely flappable so they'd admire them. Since they're both shy, the two of them would be a disaster to watch flirt (read: attempt to flirt).

Theo: Rylan from "When Twilight Strikes" by @evertidings - Another really hard one. They're both hot, love flirting, and fear commitment. It's a match made in heaven. Actually, it's a match that wouldn't work out well as a serious romantic relationship but it would be a strong friendship with benefits.

Dakota: Sydero from "Superstition" by @13leaguestories - Didn't even have to think about this one. He sees mean magic lady and he's gone, deceased, perished.

Antigone: Ambrose Kim from "Mind Blind" by @mindblindbard - Kim is objective, precise, and capable and Annie would be a total mess for him. Also he's 30 and that soothes her immortal heart since she normally gets hit on by younger adults and it's a little weird for her.

Voice is soft, smooth, and speech is a little old timey
