So...we are not touching the topic of Ken anymore, right?

I just don't really keep tabs on him and don't really feel the need to report on every little thing he does unless it's something big like a new Lara-Su book. At a certain point I'm just repeating myself.

I thought about saying something about the recent minor controversy with him reprinting something Ian and Tracy made in his new collection of Archie Shadow stories and using photos of them in the book against their explicit wishes, but like. Penders being a dick to Ian and Tracy? Claiming ownership of more Archie material than he really should? But he's probably going to get away with it because a run of a couple hundred books is nothing to Sega, and nobody involved wants to spend their time and money battling him in court over shit from 20-30 years ago? Same old same old.

Likewise I thought about saying something about his other reprint collections and how they're editing the art rather than preserving the original works, but any press is good press for guys like him and I don't want to keep advertising his reprint books for him lol

"HEY EVERY !!", Spamton - Air Clay

Originally I was going to post a Yugioh classic monster, but it didn't come to my liking, so I'm posting another figure I was working on: Ev3ry Buddy 's Favorite [[Number 1 Rated Salesman1997]], Spamton G. Spamton!

Originally I made him in modelling clay, but he came out too [[BIG]], so I made another figure in air clay in a smaller size, which came better to my liking. My mother thought he was some weird deformed woodpecker.

Design based on his original sprite. My interpretation ain't much different than other fans', I personally enjoy their shoes. Wanna give a shout out to [ActualDavis] and [2 Cool 4 School] animations of Spamton, giving me some inspiration.

Yugo Ogami from the Bloody Roar series, done in modelling clay.

Bloody Roar 2 is a childhood favorite of mine, but I have no money nor means to buy figurines of it. Not even bootlegs. I'm proud of how this figure came out, but I'll admit the proportions are very cartoony. Next time, it will be better.

Update: Posted the figure with better photos.

Have you read more of Xmen? 😁

Not yet! I fell off reading the Claremont run right after Scott left post-Dark Phoenix since that was a natural stopping point for that arc. But that's not X-Men's fault, I was enjoying it. I also fell off reading '00s Fantastic Four after the end of the Waid run even though I wanted to read through Hickman, and I stopped just a few issues into Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. I am also behind on half of my current subscriptions other than Sonic, Transformers, Absolute Batman, and Fantastic Four lol. Just haven't been reading comics as much lately for one reason or another.

I can't find it now, but I saw a headline somewhere the other day from someone who said they were fixing their social media addiction by replacing mindless scrolling with reading comics instead. Maybe I should take that to heart. Just grab my iPad and read an issue or two when I've got a few minutes to kill.

The Roaring Knight appeared- Air clay

I managed to make a floating figure. I'm unsure if I should feel proud or not.

A dark, yet darker figure, a first for me. It was very interesting to make. What do you think?

What are your thoughts on Dr Starline as a character?

He was a nice contrast to Dr. Eggman. Having Starline be this guy who was appalled at how reckless Eggman and cavalier was, only to basically commit the same mistakes in a different way was interesting. It was a fun commentary on, like, meeting your heroes, and how fans might misinterpret intentions.

By that I mean I feel like it's pretty common in fandom spaces to think "well I'd do that better" and then it turns out you don't.

Starline is, or was, just as blind as Eggman, just from a different perspective. And I like that. I like the friction he created in the world because of that. I like that he was trying to beat Eggman at his own game as a twisted way to prove his devotion. He was an enemy both to Sonic and technically to Eggman as well, something he passed on to Surge and Kit.

And, really, there was only one way that could have ended: with Starline facing reality and paying the price for that. But there's rumors he may be coming back soon, so I'm anticipating that.

So,uh... Jujutsu Kaisen! Do you like Jujutsu Kaisen?

I have kind of a love-hate relationship with JJK, but I like it more than I dislike it overall. My problem is that Gege has a tendency to get very bogged down in exposition about the mechanics of the power system, and to a lesser extent stuff like the off-screen hierarchy of the jujutsu world, that it can feel like he forgets to tell an actual story about the characters. This was most recently seen in the full episode of exposition with Tengen in the anime, and manga readers will know what I mean with that whole final battle arc, or the epilogue where it feels like more effort was put into creating an in-story FAQ about the mechanics of the fight than giving the narrative an emotionally satisfying ending.

That being said, when it's good, the series is still REALLY fun. Especially when Gege is just giving us eccentric characters with weird powers and sticking them in really cool fights. The tag team boogie woogie fight with Yuji and Todo near the end of the anime's first season will always be one of my favorite anime fights ever. I love characters like Todo and Hakari and Takaba. Honestly I kind of wish Gege was just doing a full-on action comedy series right now instead of Modulo.

And of course Mappa is doing incredible things with the anime, from the sheer animation quality to the many directorial flourishes that elevate the source material. That whole conversation with Yuji and Hakari that was depicted via a single held shot to allow the naturalistic character animation to shine was so, so good the other week. As was everything they did with Perfect Preparation. I'm not entirely sure how much the anime will be able to smooth over the ending, but it's definitely going to be a fun ride getting there.
