One good idea. Could he not get just one good idea?
Roman, tired and bothered, sat at his desk, head pressing onto the wood of his elegantly carved workspace.
He just needed one idea. Why couldn’t he get one?
Roman grumbled.
A creak filled the air, escaping from his room’s door to the right of him.
“You’re up late,” a familiar monotonous voice followed.
A groan was all Roman answered with.
“Brainstorming again?”
“Yeh,” Roman mumbled.
Logan walked forward through the room, slowly shutting the door behind him. “Your brain certainly isn’t going to get many ideas at three A.M.”
“How do you know that?” Roman’s cheek was squished up against his stiff desk as he turned his head to Logan.
Logan adjusted his glasses. “I know that because of evidence. Tell me, how many times have you stayed up late to get ideas?”
“I dunno,” Roman slowly started to raise himself up from his desk, rubbing his eyes, slowly rising like Frankenstein’s monster from its steel slate. “A lot of times.”
“And did any of those late nights give you good ideas?”
“No!” Roman slammed his hand against the desk, a bit harder than he expected, causing him to quickly shake it out afterwards. “Ow.”
“Don’t—” Logan paused, wincing, “hit your hand on the desk.”
“Ah, you’re right, you always are, my brilliant knight! Alas, I can’t get any ideas this late.” Roman kicked his velvet and wood swivel-chair away from his desk, draping a hand across his forehead and closing his eyes. “But I am weak from resisting my shackles of sleep, fair nerd. I must be whisked away to rest.”
Logan watched.
Roman popped open an eye and peered at Logan. “That means you’re carrying me over to your room.”
A quick sigh. “Alright.”
Roman loved how Logan didn’t even question this behavior anymore. It was just the usual 3 A.M. Roman shenanigans now.
Roman kept leaning back in his chair, hand draped across his forehead, eyes shut.
Logan wandered over, clasping his hands around Roman and picking him up princess style like Roman always did with him.
Roman grinned slyly, opening both his eyes to see the geek looking down at him with a plain expression.
“You’re fortunate that I have the adequate upper-body strength in order to carry you like this so often.”
“Indeed, I am lucky to have such a strong, smart, and elegant man to care for me! I am the damsel, and you are my prince,” Roman cooed.
“Come on. Let’s get going.”
Roman frowned. “You didn’t even comment on my lavish love language.”
“It’s three A.M., do you really expect me to be monologing to you about love right now?”
“Maybe,” Roman mumbled.
“I haven’t dropped you yet. That should work as a declaration of love for the time being.”
Roman gasped offendedly.
Logan stifled a chuckle, smirking slightly.
The two sank down into the bookworm’s room, and soon before Roman even knew it, he was wrapped in Logan’s soft blue bed quilt with his fingers running through Logan’s hair. Both of their gazes were soft as their eyes slowly faded to shutting, then opening again, with slow and purposeful blinks.
“Hey, I got an idea.”
“Shhhh,” Logan hushed.
“There’s this jock who stays up too late doing homework—”
“Go to bed.”
“And a nerd comes in to—”
Logan pressed a finger to Roman’s mouth. “Go. To sleep. You’ll remember it in the morning.”
“Alright alright alright, brainiac. I’ll get my beauty rest now. Goodnight.”
“Sleep tight.”
“Don’t let the bedbugs bite!” Roman threw his arms around Logan. “I’ll protect you from those dreaded beasts with kisses!”
“Eugh, please not now—” Logan started, but Roman was already pressing kisses all over his face.
Well.
At least Roman got his one idea.
