Logan sighed as he readjusted his glasses for what had to be the fifth time in the last ten minutes. He was lucky his friends’ attention was focused entirely on their game of Truth-or-Dare or they would definitely have noticed that something was up.
The thing was that Logan was only readjusting his glasses so much as a way to hide the fact that he was most definitely staring at someone.
That someone?
Well, Logan didn’t know… exactly.
He knew his name was Nate but had not found out a last name and he was pretty sure that the guy was a year older than him. Other than that? No clue.
You know he’s really hot~
Shut up.
Why were feelings and attraction and hormones a thing again?
Logan was saved a lecture about why those very things existed from himself when one of his friend’s saying his name caught his attention.
“Huh, yeah?”
“Oh, we were just wondering… truth or dare?”
If Logan’s attention had been fully on what Roman had said, he would have quickly caught on and glared at his friend for such a weak attempt at the subtle art of sabotage.
Unfortunately, for Logan, his attention was now split between Nate and Roman’s words and the split was definitely not even.
“Uh… dare.”
“Roman no! He’s obviously not fully paying attention because of that boy!”
Roman smirked at their distracted friend.
“Oh, I’m aware.”
Remus snickered beside him and Virgil looked as if he didn’t know whether he wanted to laugh or run away from whatever was about to happen.
“Logan…”
Roman snapped his fingers in front of Logan’s face. Logan, blinking, looked around at the others.
“What?”
“Oh, nothing… except that you just agreed to a dare.”
“I… no.”
“Oh, yes.” Roman’s laugh was quite maniacal. Logan was a little impressed. He sighed and mentally kicked himself for ever letting his guard down around his so-called friend.
“Logan doesn’t have to do it. He was distracted!” Patton said with a tone of finality to his voice.
“It’s okay, Patton,” Logan said with a sigh. He readjusted his glasses out of nerves and straightened his tie. “Very well, Roman. Though Patton is quite right and I was not fully aware of what I was getting myself into, and you know well I do not like these sorts of games, I did state that I would take a dare. Go ahead.”
Roman hesitated for a moment. Logan hoped playing to Roman’s feelings of fairness would help him but a second later a smirk slipped onto the other’s face and he knew his gamble had failed.
“I dare you to kiss that boy who you are so enchanted with!”
“Roman! You can’t dare that!”
“I can and I did!”
“Roman, that’s not cool, dude,” Virgil said.
Logan glared at Roman and then glanced at the guy. He was as relaxed and calm as ever lounging in the grass. Even his annoyance with Roman wasn’t enough to keep him from smiling.
As he watched the other continue to lounge there as if he didn’t have a care in the world, an idea came to him. He didn’t know if it would even work but it was worth a shot.
“I’ll do it.”
The arguing at the table stopped and everyone looked at him.
“Logan, you really don’t have to…”
“I know, Patton. But it’s okay… really.”
Roman raised his brows. “You’re actually gonna do it?”
Remus chimed in right after. “Seriously?”
Logan glanced at Janus, who was smirking at him.
“No comments from you?”
Janus shrugged. “Nope. Not surprised. The Intelligent Cool Logan is just as thirsty as the rest of us. Shocker.”
Logan was feeling a little annoyed until the other winked and nodded toward where Nate still lounged, unaware of the conversation happening about him not too far away.
Glancing at his friends, Logan rubbed his hands on his pants and stood. He forced himself to start walking toward the older teen, making sure not to look back at his friends lest he get nervous and chicken out.
As soon as Logan reached him, the older teen opened his eyes. Logan assumed it was due to the fact he was standing in the sun the other had been basking in but, as Logan couldn’t read minds, there was no way to know for sure.
“Hey,” the teen said, flashing a smile at him. “What’s your name?”
“Uh… oh, it’s uh, Logan.”
“UhLogan? Well, is it cool if I just call you Logan?”
Logan beamed at him gratefully and cleared his throat.
“So, what can I help you with, Logan?”
“Um… I was wondering if… I could..”
When he had come up with the plan in his head, it had played out perfectly. The only problem was that he hadn’t actually stopped to think about what he was going to say or how to say it.
He sighed and closed his eyes, trying to think about how the others would do this. Patton would just hug the other and say outright how he felt. Virgil would not likely tell his crush ever without one of the others’ help. Roman would say it with flowers and finesse. Remus with dirty kisses and lingering touches. Janus with wordplay and turn of phrase. None of those were Logan though.
Nate was still looking at him with interest though with a hint of worry laced in. Logan finally clenched his fists and said the first thing that came to his mind.
“Uh, my friends and I were playing Truth-or-Dare over there and I was dared to kiss you.”
Nate’s brows rose as a pleased grin slipped over his face.
“You were, huh?” Nate glanced over at the group and then back at Logan. Standing up, he smiled down at Logan who was a head shorter than him. Logan blushed as he held the other’s gaze. “Well, we can’t let you lose now, can we?”
Logan, a little afraid to even move, shook his head slightly. “N-no,” he breathed, his eyes a little wide.
Nate grinned, reaching up to grip the other’s chin, tilting his head back gently.
“You good, cutie?”
Logan nodded.
“Good.”
Logan closed his eyes and a moment later he gasped at the feel of Nate’s lips pressing against his own. Logan nervously kissed back, pressing in closer to the older teen. When they pulled away, both needing air, Nate chuckled before he kissed Logan’s cheek.
“I’ll definitely be seeing you around, Logan.” He turned on his heels and headed for the building only to call back out. “Later, cutie.”
Logan, beet red, returned to the table and his friends.

Super uber thanks to my beta reader for this fic @sunshineandteddybears and the two that preread my stuff to make sure its up to par: @romantichopelessly & @sunshineandteddybears.
The Rent AU no one asked for but everyone needs. No. Seriously.
OKAY OKAY Y’ALL. Let me get all countrified to tell you this. I decided for no reason except because its fucking awesome that the Sanders Sides community needs a Rent AU. I posed the idea to my besties @romantichopelessly and @sunshineandteddybears and we got to work.
Unfortunately, the problem was gonna be casting it because all of the sides fit multiple characters really well but in fitting the pieces of this musical au puzzle, there was always one piece that just didn’t fit right. An hour later, Lora finally is like this person as this person and this one as this. And it all clicked into place.
Here is the line up:
Roger — Patton
Mark — Virgil
Mimi — Thomas
Maureen — Roman
Joanne — Logan
Collins — Deceit
Angel — Remus
Benny — Remy
[Bonus, Emile was the old lady who paid Angel and Nate is a set of quadruplets who were hired as waiters for Maureen and Joanne’s wedding. Roman flirts with them and Logan calls him out. LARRY AND DOT AS ROMAN'S PARENTS WHO KEEP TRYING TO GET HIM AND VIRGIL BACK TOGETHER. ]
Now that myself, Lora, and Jen have brought this brilliant new AU to you all, it is now the duty of the fanders to take this and RUN WITH IT.
Run like the wind, Bullseye!
Fanartists, fanfiction writers, mood boarders, graphic editors, candlestick makers (obviously the last one is a joke but hey, if you candlestick makers think you can create with this, by all means). Point is this...
Our gift to you. Just thank us by making sure to credit us for the idea. All we ask. Now, get creating!
Happy Birthday @romantichopelessly!!!!!!! This is prezzie for you <3
He didn’t want to be here. There were a million other places on the planet he would have preferred, some of which were also places he despised.
But the beach? The absolute worst.
“Come on Lo!” Patton called out, waving from down the beach at his scowling friend. Logan refused to budge. Refused to wave back. Why did he let them convince him to go on this outing? Sand was nature’s glitter, it got everyone and refused to truly leave. The gulls were thieves. And worst of all, there was the ocean.
A shiver ran down his spine at the mere thought. Seeing it before him brought dread. There is no way he’s getting me anywhere closer. Logan thought, crossing his arms.
“I got Crofters jelly sandwiches!”
“Well, shit.” Logan mumbled, frowning as he debated over this new information. On one hand, the ocean and all its evils. On the other hand, Crofters. The gnawing of his stomach answered for him. With a sigh, he finally took the plunge from the parking lot onto the sand. Ugh. Nose wrinkled with distaste, Logan clung to himself and kept his head down. Just focus on the ground. If he just paid attention to his feet and the sand, horrid as it was, then he won’t see how much closer he was to the fathomless depths of the sea-
“See? Everything is fine.” Patton’s voice cut in, making Logan snap his head back up. “Nothing’s gonna get ya buddy!” Before he could protest the claim, the bubbly man grabbed his arm and tugged him a little further to where the twins had set up the blanket and chairs. Virgil was digging into the cooler. “Here we are!” Logan was guided to one of the chairs, of which he sat in with a grunt. “Nice and cozy.”
“The only thing that is remotely either of those two adjectives would be those sandwiches.” Logan remarked back, gaze stern as he sat stiffly. His comment caused Virgil to snort and he took out the sandwich bags that contained the promised offering.
“Here you go L.”
He sighed with relief and took the bag, opening it up. “Thank you V.” There was no hesitance in biting into that first sandwich, the taste of the jelly helped calm him somewhat. Or well, as calm as he could when he was so close to the terrifying tide.
“Relax will ya, Calculator Watch?” Roman all but demanded, patting Logan too roughly on his shoulder. Logan’s response was to scowl and chew more aggressively. The others seemed to clue in on leaving him alone after that. Letting Logan eat his sandwiches in peace. Good. Roman was distracted soon enough by his brother, who was challenging him to a sandcastle contest with Janus as acting judge. Virgil was content with sitting in another chair and drinking a soda. Patton, after making sure Logan wasn’t going to abandon them for the car (which he thought about but was useless without the keys), went off with his camera to take pictures.
Logan spent that time eating away his comfort food, occasionally drinking water from a bottle that Virgil graciously got for him out of the cooler. He didn’t want to move anywhere unless it was back to the vehicle. The sound of the waves made him tense, and despite his best efforts, Logan would find himself looking towards them. Just to make sure they weren’t somehow getting closer. Or pulling back drastically before a tsunami bared down upon them all.
“It’s gonna be okay.”
The spectacled young man turned his head towards his anxious friend, who gave him a nod of understanding. If anyone could relate to Logan and his fears, it was Virgil. His understanding was a comfort, but even with it, his fears could not be placated. He appreciated the gesture though.
“I suppose it is better that we do not have a crowd of individuals to trample us should there be an emergency.” Logan voiced, wanting to at least attempt to find some positive to focus on. Virgil seemed to approve at the very least.
“Yeah. Thank god for Janus’ grandparents.”
Yes, hooray for rich grandparents and their stereotypical purchase of private beaches. he thought, partially sarcastic. It saved him from trampling and harassment, but it also provided the excuse needed to drag Logan out to the place he couldn’t stand the most. I wonder how long they’ll force me to put up with this. He wondered, eyes finding their way back to the ocean. The same as it was the last time he saw i-
Was that a dorsal fin?
With a sharp inhale, Logan tried to move back, only to tilt his chair and cause it to fall over. “Shit! You okay L?” Virgil asked, scrambling to get out of his chair.
“S-shark.” was all he responded, forgetting to answer the question itself. Virgil’s eyes widened and looked towards the sea, searching for what he had seen. He had to get up, he knew it, but he was frozen. Too busy trying to catch his breath that suddenly would not come.
“I don’t see anything.” Virgil said after a moment, his brow furrowed as he helped Logan off the fallen chair and become upright. “I’ll tell the others to not go in the water though. Just in case.” And just like that he was gone, leaving Logan alone. He stared wide eyed at the coastline, searching frantically for that dorsal fin. But like Virgil said, there wasn’t anything anymore.
I’m certain I did not imagine it. Perhaps it went deeper down. Either way, it was all the more reason to stay far from the water. A mindset Virgil had as he rounded up their friends and brought them back to the blanket.
“Awwww but I wanna see the shark!” Remus complained, being dragged back by both his brother and Janus. “They’re so cool! Did you know some have fifteen rows of razor sharp teeth? And they never run out of any either! And that their skin is made of teeth-like scales? It’s so easy to rip their prey into shreds!” These were things Logan did not need to hear about after seeing one on their shore. “But they hardly ever attack people! It’s only when they mistake one for like a seal or a manatee cause they got shit eyesight. And it’s only ever like a bite cause humans taste like shit roasting in the sun. Hey do you think they’d hate pig meat too? Since that’s the flesh closest to humans?”
Logan tuned out the more manic twin’s info dumping, his heart skyrocketing at some of the knowledge offered. Any other time, where they were safe far far inland, he wouldn’t mind listening and theorizing with him about it. But talking about sea life when by the sea? No thank you. Thankfully, the subject of pig being similar to humans caused Remus to go into cannibalism instead, leaving behind any thoughts of sharks.
Janus and Virgil humored him, with Roman giving an occasional input, while Patton fixed Logan’s chair and helped him back in. With an apologetic smile, the freckled covered young man handed over another bag with more sandwiches. At least there was one good thing to come out of this. The others’ voices washed over him as he slowly came down from the panic, their loud antics nearly drowning out the waves while the taste of Crofter’s jelly soothed him.
Roman at some point grew bored of whatever path the conversation took, and went to make another sand castle next to the blanket. Then Remus grew bored as well and decided bothering his brother was much more entertaining. Somehow in the pestering, the castle collapsed. Which in turned created an enraged Roman who got up to chase after his cackling twin. The two ran around the blanket and chairs, not paying attention at all to where they were going. And as such, they knocked against Logan’s chair, just as he was taking out the last sandwich.
The jolt from it caused Logan to lose hold of it and with wide eyes, watched as it fell onto the sand. “Oh no!” he heard Patton say remorsefully. “That was all I had packed.” Silence fell over the group, even the twins halted their tom foolery. Logan himself said not a word, merely stared at the fallen food as he felt his eye twitch. With a steady hand he reached down and picked it up. It was covered in sand, rendered completely inedible.
Without a word, he stood up and turned to face the twins. His eyes were cold as he stared them down. “Run.” he instructed, the only warning he would give before he unleashed all of his anger and frustrations of the day out onto them.
Wisely, they listened.
The second they took off into a sprint, he rushed to follow. “I’m going to knock some sense into you two!” he yelled after them. The air rushed past his ears and his feet pounded against the sand. His eyes focused solely on Roman and Remus. As such, he did not realize when the impact on the sand changed, when it became more compact from being wet. He did not notice when the sounds of waves grew closer.
He was unaware that he had chased them all the way down to the shore until water licked at his feet from an oncoming wave. The sudden chill of it all startled him, causing him to trip over his own feet and crash into the sand. The moment he fell down, another wave washed over. Stiff from shock and fear at how close he was to the ocean, he didn’t realize until it was too late that his body was being dragged back with the water. An undertow!
Panic seized Logan as he was dragged out to sea, more waves crashing over him as the hidden current took him away. He couldn’t hear anything but the rushing in his ears, not even his calls for help. Water filled his mouth and then it was covering him all around. I’m going to die! He thought, trying desperately to hold his breath. I’m going to drown in the fucking ocean!
His body crashed against something firm and the feeling of arms wrapped around him. Panicked and confused, Logan wriggled in the grasp but it held tight. Then there was a sensation of propelling, rushing in a direction he could not gather in his dazed confusion. His lungs protested with the need to breath and he was sure it was going to be the end-
And then he breached the surface. Logan gasped and coughed, trying to intake air and expel the water. He shook from the force of it all. Chocolate brown eyes blinked, vision blurry from the salt water that got in them and covered his glasses. When he finally felt like he could breath, he took stock of his surroundings. He was still in the ocean, a fact which filled him with dread. And someone was holding him.
Blinking some more, Logan looked towards his savior. A stranger with a seemingly normal, if handsome, face. Save for the face had fin- like appendages sprouted from the head and very sharp looking teeth were grinning at him. Great Scott!
“You alright?” a deep voice asked, though it sounded much more melodic than any human voice he had ever heard. “You land creatures need to be more careful. You don’t have gills and aren’t nearly as good at swimming as dolphins or whales.”
“Wh-what?” Logan asked before coughing again. When the coughing ceased, his eyes opened to see that face much closer. Heat bloomed in his cheeks and he tried to lean back, before remembering he was being held.
“You’re cute.” More heat filled his face at that. “I like your shiny eye decorations.” His eye what?
“My- my glasses?” he asked, bewildered by the entire exchange. In the distance he heard voices calling out. Craning his neck, Logan was able to make out the beach and the faint blobs that were his friends. Oh god I’m so far out! Unconsciously, he clung to the stranger. Or tried to. Something was in one of his hands. Looking down at it, he realized he was still holding onto the soiled sandwich. Shocked, he lifted it up to blink at it.
“What’s that?” The stranger asked, leaning down to look at it as well.
“It- uh, it’s a sandwich.” He explained. Though really that was a stretch of the word now. With how soggy the sand covered bread had become. Some of it had even broken away.
“It looks tasty.” Logan honestly didn’t know how to respond to that. He was so confused about so many things. Wordlessly, he just held it up a little higher. Maybe whoever this was just needed a better look to see it did in fact not look appetizing at all.
And he ate it right out of Logan’s hand.
Oh my stars! Now his face really was on fire. “I- ah- uh-”
“I like your voice.” Oh that was not helping Logan at all. “I think your pod is calling for you.” Pod? “I’ll take you over.” Before Logan could question or protest or anything, he was being maneuvered around the individual, who he realized was topless, until he was pressed against the other’s back. “Hold on.” he was instructed, and Logan scrambled to listen. Though he felt something protruding from it, causing him to rest his torso off to the side while his hands wrapped around broad shoulders. Looking down to see what the protrusion was, Logan’s eyes widened at the sight of a dorsal fin. A very shark-like dorsal fin. “Here we go!”
Suddenly they were moving forward, his rescuer going under the water but not deep enough for Logan to submerge. The shore grew closer and Logan was able to make out the shapes of his friends more clearly. He couldn’t hear them over the roar of the waves, but he could tell they were freaking out. Then he and and his clearly not human savior fell down with a wave, washing up onto the beach.
“Oh my god he’s over here!” He heard Roman cry out, but was too busy coughing to look. Slowly he realized he was still on his rescuer’s back and rolled off it before sitting up on shaky knees. Now that he was no longer in the water, he was able to finally get a proper look at the other.
Along with the ear fins and dorsal fin, there were scales along patches of the arms and back. His hands were clawed and down where legs should be-
Was a tail. Its coloring and pattern was much like a tiger shark’s.
Merpeople were real. And one just saved his life.
“Hmmm… I did not think this through.” the mer...man, Logan assumed the merindividual was male, spoke, pushing up with his arms. “I am stuck.” Oh. Oh! That was bad.
“I- we- We’ll get you out.” Logan spoke, not noticing how his friends swarmed to his location and stilled at the sight of a mythical being. “Or in? I suppose?”
“Y-yeah!” Roman’s voice rang out, startling Logan and making him finally see his friends all there. “Never fear! We’ll get you back into the water before you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
“Supercali whata?” the mer attempted to repeat, clearly confused.
“Don’t worry about it.” Patton replied, giving a friendly smile. Soon rough, they all gathered around him and began to lift him up. With great difficulty.
“You sure are a… big.. Hmph.. fella.” Virgil grunted, face red with strain as they started to carefully move back into the sea. Logan remained in place, frozen for a moment as he watched the entire exchange. However, once he realized how far they were getting, how close they were to releasing the mer and him probably never seeing him again, Logan scrambled to his feet and hurried after.
“Wait!” he called out, reaching to hold onto those clawed hands from their dangled position. The mer blinked and squinted, as if having difficult seeing.
“Oh pretty eyes!” he remarked once recognition fully set.
“N-um.” Honestly Logan was unsure how many times he could be rendered speechless and blushing by this creature. “Name!” he spouted out, trying to push through the embarrassment. “Do you have a name?”
“Sure! It’s-” the sound which left the mer was pretty, but did not sound much like words at all. Logan’s brows furrowed at it as he thought of how he could attempt to replicate it. “But one of you land creatures a long time ago called me Nate. So you can use that.” Someone had met a merperson and kept quiet about it?
Not the time to dwell on that. Logan decided, giving a small nod. “Nate.” He would never admit it, but it had a nice feel on his tongue. “Thank you. For saving me.”
“No problem cutie!” Nate replied, grinning that sharp toothed grin. And yes, there was yet another blush to his cheeks. “I protect! It’s what I do.” That was... quite interesting to know. “Can I know your name?”
“I’m Logan.” he replied. Nate’s smile seemed to grow bigger, with a hint of more teeth hidden inside.
“Logan… I like it!” Suddenly everyone stopped walking, and Logan realized they were waist deep in the water. “Oh Logan!” Nate remarked, bringing the nearly drowned man’s attention back to him. Thankfully, despite the heaviness, his friends seemed willing to wait before setting him down. “Come closer!” Curious, he did as he was requested, kneeling down a bit as his hands were tugged.
Suddenly his hands were released as Nate instead wrapped his arms around his neck and pulled him the rest of the way. Cold lips covered his own, so smooth and strange compared to humans. But it didn’t stop his entire body from warming as he realized the merman was kissing him. Dazed, he blinked as it came to an end with Nate still grinning away. “I’ll see you soon okay?” the mer asked, and without thinking Logan nodded. “Great! Though I don’t want you drowning so you could go to the cave down the beach.” he went on, pointing off towards where many rocks were. “The pool is deep enough for me and no waves to wash you away!”
With a grunt from Virgil, who was struggling to maintain his grip, the others finally set the mer down into the water. Carefully, nate moved around their legs and turned around to head for deeper waters. But not before popping his head out for one last farewell. “See you soon!” his melodic voice rang, a hand raising up to wave before he swam away. Logan watched after him until the dorsal fin sunk under.
“No fair! I want a shark boyfriend!” Remus complained, only to get shoved by Roman. When Patton gently touched his arm, reality began to sink into Logan.
“I just agreed to meet with him again.” he murmured out.
“Yep.” came Patton’s clear voice, supportive but with a touch of worry.
“Oh stars above, I have to come back here to do that.”
“Afraid so.” came Virgil’s voice, moving to stand by Patton. “You’re also still standing waist deep in the ocean.” he added. The reminder made Logan look down and sure enough. He was. And it was… not as terrifying as before. Still scary, but… not as bad.
“This is my life now.” The thought should have been horrifying. It should have been horrendous. But… if it met seeing Nate again… maybe he could survive it. “I need more Crofter sandwiches.”
“You got it buddy!” Patton chirped before guiding Logan out of the water. Everyone else had begun to pack up their things and carry it back to the car. Janus was on the phone, hurrying telling whoever on the other end that it was a false alarm, no need to come out. It confused Logan for all of five seconds before he realized that his friend was talking to emergency services.
“Okay crisis averted.” the heterochromic eyed man announced as he hung up. “We should probably still take you to the hospital. Get your lungs checked out.”
“Ah yes, that would be a good idea.” His throat still itched from the sea water and all the coughing. When everything had been packed up, the group of friends gathered into the car, with Logan in the middle of the back seat. As they drove away Logan found himself turning his head back to look at the beach as it faded from sight.
He was actually looking kind of forward to coming back.
Warnings: Implied murder, Police, Maffiamention, Mysterious Disappearances, Dead body, Loads of weird stuff happening, Police Investigation. Implied husband murdering his husband (not the case). Implied affairs (not the case). (tell me if you find anything else I should put here)
...
Lamp relationship, where they hide they are polyam bc of sucky society. Logan and Roman are married on paper, Patton and Virgil are married on paper, but they all view eachother as husbands. They also married very early (high school sweethearts, married right after turning 18).
Then they move out of town, and in the new town they get become very respected,
Logan is a proffesor at the local university, teaching and researching the climate. (Ft him being pissed about people not believeing in global warming)
Virgil is the nice and surprisingly fun History teacher at the local high school. The kids love him, and he raised a lot of kids grades by learning in a way that benefitted each students personal way of learning.
Roman is a writer/musician/actor who has published two popular books and an album, as well as plays in the local theatre where he is known for being very friendly and overly dramatic.
Patton being a therapist, and helping a lot of the locals with dealing with their mental health. He (and his collegue Emile Picani) is very liked along the locals who have gone to them. He is known by everyone for being kind and loving, as well as a great person to talk to because he just gets you, no matter what.
(Also, Mayor Janus Deceit becomes great friends with them all, and eventually somehow becomes best friends and housemates with Roman's brother Remus, who somehow managed to really make a good impression by being highly inappropriate on a public event.)
And then,
Suddenly Patton is not showing up at work, and Emile calls to the husband squad being all worried, and they are like:
:O
Because he is not at home either, so suddenly there is a state wide search for the man, but there is no sign of him.
Obviously the police (Nate and Remy) goes to their home, being very suspicious of especially Virgil, because it's always the husband, isn't it?
They notice strange tension between the three, and Nate comes to the conclusion that obviously Patton has a thing with everyone, and the more interviews they do, the more sure he is. Virgil is kinda on edge att all times, and is mostly closed off (bc he is scared for one of his Husbands), but Nate and Remy takes this as a weird tension for all of them.
They make a whole theory that Virgil must've realized that his husband cheated on him, and so decided to get rid of him. But no body = no case, and they had no proof that Patton has been killed, just that his shoes and bag was gone, but that wasn't that weird as he had gone to work.
Anyway, a few months go by and suddenly Roman disappears too. Which is a bit bigger news, bc he is decidedly more World Wide famous, thanks to his books and album.
The police is once again back to their household, Virgil and Logan are all cuddled up, so the case seems obvious. They must've killed their husbands bc they were caught in an affair, so now Nate and Remy are actively searching for the bodies. Going through the house several times, using all sorts of means to find any blood or proof of struggle. Nothing is found. The two just seem to have gone.
They interview Picani, Janus and Remus again, trying to learn anything they can without giving too much away. Because they can't just go out openly accusing two very much liked people without proof.
Virgil and Logan are less nervous this time around too, and the police seems to notice. Their husbands, and best friends/roomates suddenly disappear and they don't seem to care.
But they can't prove anything, Logan and Virgil both have clear alibis, both being at their jobs, with several students having seen them there, as both disappearings took place.
And then suddenly, out of nowhere, Remy gets a letter which says "This is the truth" and is a picture of what seems to be the missing two, in sunglasses, standing and talking with a strange man on the street somewhere.
And holyshit this turns everything around. Remy shows Nate, and they do more interviews with the friends and family of the missing, trying to ask questions without admitting to knowing the question.
Nothing new comes out of it, but suddenly Logan is breaking his usual schedule, and Virgil seems to visit Picani a whole lot more. Remus and Janus isn't seen much, but that really isn't too unusual.
Remy and Nate does what they can trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Until one day, they just admit to having the photo, showing it to the two husbands. Virgil take a look on it and breaks the story the group have this far held onto,
He tells them Roman had gone on a trip to Europe to gain inspiration for a story.
The others doesn't change theirs, still stating they just disappeared. But now, now they have something to go off.
After a while, Roman and Patton is located to Paris, and then later London and Rome.
More photos of them surface, always wearing new sunglasses and clothes, sometimes alongside people who still are unknown, and no one seems to know them at all.
So obviously the locals are like, suspicious, like... Are all these respected and well liked people... In the maffia or something?
But nothing seems to prove that, except for them being a bit sketchy. Virgil eventually quits his job, shocking everyone. Then Logan does too, and everyone is in shock by the news.
Nate and Remy isn't even able to stop them before suddenly they have both left. All their belongings disappearing from their house overnight, proving this must have been planned. But the house wasn't sold, and as the four had owned it and not rented, it stands abandoned. Nate and Remy checks up on it all the time, making sure to know every person who goes there, but no one does.
Remus and Janus doesn't reveal anything, and Picani is ruled to simply not knowing anything at all.
Janus is still a good mayor for several years, and the people want to reelect him, but he doesn't run again. But he and Remus does not move from there either.
They are still seen around town, but no one knows what either do except shop groceries and going on a walk every now and then.
Remy and Nate is absolutely pulling their hair out because, this is weird, but not weird enough to arrest them or even question them. And the missing case had been put down a long time ago, with no new proof.
Then out of Nowhere. Suddenly the four moves back to town.
Logan goes back to the university, who does hire him again after a few months. Patton opens his own bakery. Virgil opens a bookshop, and Roman simply stays at home. No one really sees him, only proof of him being alive is the neighbours seeing him in the garden.
And then... Then weird stuff happens.
Because a body is found. Behind some trees in the park. And it is immediately identified as being Roman, but as those news go out, and Remy and Nate goes to the husbands house, the person who greets them is Roman.
So they think it must be Remus, but Remus arrives to the house before they can even leave. The twins beside each other, and a dead body looking like them.
And that's when a mystery is going wild, because no one knows how to take these news.
Roman and Remus tells them that there is infact no other siblings, and a quick look at their files can prove that.
So now it is up to Remy and Nate to solve what the heck happened, and how The Husband squad is connected to it all.
The streets were filled with laughter, five kids having fun as they ran down the street away from their guardian who tried catching up to them. Three of them got on bikes, the others getting on also and hanging on.
Neighbors watched them, smiling fondly and knew them as the Sanders Sides. It fit them, seeing how they all resembled their guardian somehow. The logical one, the creative one, the broody one, the emotional one, and the playful deceptive one. Together, they could cause a riot.
“To the park!” The creative one calls out, cheers following as they sped towards the park.
Chatter filled the quiet neighborhood, waving at a few others their age and told them to meet at the park soon. The logical one was yelling at the creative one to hold on tighter and to stop moving so much. The emotional one just giggles as the playful deceptive one cheers on the rowdiness from behind. The broody one just rolls his eyes, staying behind alone on his bike to make sure his brothers didn’t get hurt.
As they arrived, bikes were soon abandoned and they waved at their sleepy friend. They wave back, handing out the skateboards and spray paint, and soon more came over. Their helpful friend soon came over with his notebook, the slow one following behind with a backpack full of drinks. Soon, even more came with something and it turned into a get together with food a drinks. The preteens had their weekly fun there, the small section of the skate park for them.
The logical one puts on his helmet, knee and elbow pads, soon going off on his skateboard. The deceptive one followed behind, practicing a few moves. The broody and creative one started spraypainting, poking fun at each other as they competed. The emotional and helpful ones just watched over, talking with each other about new tv shows. The sleepy and slow one were sipping their drinks, shouting encouragement and soon joined on skateboarding.
The guardian of the five soon caught up, panting and wheezing, being thrown a cold drink and soon caught it.
“You’re all grounded!” He coughs and sits down.
“No were not!” They all shout out and laugh, going back to their usual fun.
A few more kids would join them, most staying only for a while and soon had to leave. The sleepy friend, Remy, left their group first, waving goodbye and said the skateboards had to be dropped off tomorrow. Soon, the slow one, Nate, left and made a time for their next meeting. The guardian, Thomas, sighs and smiles fondly. Soon, the helpful friend, Emile, had to leave as the sun would be setting soon, hugging them all and left.
Ever since he agreed to take guardian ship of these quints, his life has been hectic. It was a lot at times, making him want to tear out his hair, making him want to take a year long vacation. However, he would never give up these messy kids for anything. They brought much into his life, and his friends loved them. If it wasn’t for their help, Thomas would’ve been lost. Joan likes Logan, Talyn likes Virgil, Terrence likes Patton, Valerie likes Roman, and Dolos was shared between everyone.
Soon they tired themselves, picking up their trash and Thomas helped out with the skateboards. Once all trash was thrown, they took their bikes back home while still sharing, going at a slow pace. All bikes and skateboards were left in the garage, all kids going up to shower or wait their turn.
Thomas knew this would repeat soon, and when asked why he would allow it, especially after school, his response?
“The kids don’t wanna come home yet,” He shrugs and chuckles, “Who am I to stop their childhood?”

Nate liked to think that he knew his boyfriend rather well.
Logan was notoriously hard to read, but after dating for nearly three years now, Nate considered himself fluent in Logan Sanders. In the past three years, Logan had come far from the standoffish know it all from the front of the chemistry classroom. Or maybe Nate had just become better at reading the nerd.
Either way, Nate knew Logan. More than anyone else a lot of the time.
By their first week as tentative friends, after their successful partner project, Nate knew that Logan absolutely adored astronomy, and that even though it wasn’t his major, he could talk about it for hours.
By the time that Nate first figured out about his crush, he knew that Logan may not always show his emotions, but he felt everything deeply. He began to see the little tells that Logan had. The pushing up of his glasses with two fingers when he was proud, one when he was nervous. The soft, tiny smiles that Logan only reserved for his friends.
By the time that Nate and Logan began dating, Nate knew that Logan secretly loved having Nate’s hands in his hair, whether it was tangled fingers in dark locks during heavy make out sessions or soft fingers combing over his scalp as they drifted off to sleep. He knew that Logan completely lost the ability to speak when kissed on that perfect spot just below his ear.
By the time they first said ‘I love you’, Nate knew about Logan’s fears, his worries. He knew when to pick up on them and when to make Logan take much needed breaks.
By the time they moved in together, Nate knew that Logan preferred the right side of the bed and secretly loved pet names.
However, despite how much Nate knew about Logan Sanders, his boyfriend still managed to surprise him all the time.
Like the time that Logan first called him Nate in front of his friends, not some elongated, proper version of his name.
Or the first time Logan reached over and grabbed his hand in public, an automatic gesture that could have been glossed over as a thoughtless gesture had it not been his Logan, who thought through everything.
Or the time that Logan canceled his work trip because Nate had the flu, and spent the entire week making him soup, something that Nate was sure Logan from three years ago would not have even considered.
However, despite the numerous times that Logan had managed to surprise him, there were some things that Nate had been positive were absolute truths. Things that Logan would never go back on. Things that would always be predictable.
Which was why it was so shocking that Logan was currently leaning against their kitchen bar, holding out a spoon full of Crofter’s.
“Try some?”
Nate blinked slowly. Once. Twice. Logan was still standing there, beautiful as ever, watching him with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m sorry, baby. What did you just say?” Nate leaned against the doorframe. He needed some support after seeing such a miraculous sight before him.
Logan frowned, his brows pulling together in confusion. “I said try some.” He pushed the jelly-filled spoon closer to his boyfriend.
Nate felt a smile beginning to grow on his face. “You want me to try some? Some of your precious Crofter’s? The same brand of fruit spread that you once threatened to break up with me over?”
Logan huffed, obviously catching on to what Nate was suggesting. Nate was pleased to see the slight color rising in his boyfriend’s cheeks. “That was one time and I was sleep deprived. Really, Nathan, it’s not like I am some sort of stingy animal.”
“I don’t know, sweetheart, I have found you eating it directly from the jar at three A.M. On multiple occasions.”
Logan bristled. Judging by the blush slowly spreading to his ears, he was becoming embarrassed by the turn of the conversation.
That would not do.
Just as Logan was lowering the spoon, probably with plans to retract his offer and go back up to their room where he would likely sulk for an hour or so before Nate came up and coaxed him out of his mood, Nate stepped further into the room and plucked the spoon from Logan’s hand.
Holding the spoonful of fruit spread, Nate understood. This wasn’t just an offer of a snack to Logan. It was something important to him, in a weird way, and Nate would never let something important to his boyfriend go unappreciated.
Before Logan could say anything, Nate lifted the spoon and ate the jam.
His mouth exploded with the sweet, fruity flavor. He met Logan’s eyes, which were filled with obvious anticipation and groaned in what he hoped was an appropriately approving manner.
It seemed to do the trick because Logan practically preened, as if the praise of the jam was a direct praise of his boyfriend himself.
“So you like it?”
“Like it?” Nate hummed, dragging out the moment. Logan rolled his eyes, used to Nate’s antics, but clearly impatient. Just as Logan was about to say something, Nate grinned and swooped in with a last second kiss. “I love it. And I love you.”
