No, I don’t think so honestly. I think it’s about someone whom he doesn’t talk to right now. The song comes across to me like he’s regretting whatever happened or didn’t happened to them. 

Also as far I know, he was in a romantic relationship when they’re friendship was still starting and while he was on tour with Taylor so yeah no.. 

Let me also take this opportunity to give my two cents about Tenerife Sea being about Taylor.

The inspiration for this song was with him at the Grammys last year, right? He said that the moment where he felt so out of place was when they were in this after party so they just went back to the hotel and eat take away, Taylor didn’t attend any after-party that last year so yeah that’s that.

And why would he put the name of that girl in the lyrics of the song if it’s not about her? I mean, his close friends probably knows her and no matter how beautiful the song is, he’s still dragging her into this mess, you know?
