MINOR SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE AHEAD, takes place during the Adult David timeline of the movie! Please be aware that I am still trying to better understand the characters' personalities, so if they seem OOC or not right, I apologize. I am just a girl trying my best and wrote this on the fly out of boredom at work, so it may be a wee bit less refined too cuz I wanted to get this idea out before I forget it. T_T
Abinadab has had it with Eliab's attitude towards David and is not entirely convinced he has changed his ways, confronting him about it.
The once, dreary, dark and gloomy former city of Ziklag was starting to see better days. What once was a Philistine fortress city was slowly transforming into a more lively and colorful temporary shelter for the dispersed followers and family of David as the people were doing their best to adapt until it was safe for them to return to Bethleham. As David's family was adjusting being in someplace different, Eliab, being the overprotective firstborn child of the family he was, decided to patrol the area, with some dispersed soldiers of Saul's army who sided with David tagging along with his second youngest brother, Abinadab.
The patrol had barely started and Eliab could already tell his younger brother was glaring daggers at him, barely speaking to him since yesterday. After gesturing for the other dispersed soldiers to patrol by themselves for a bit, Eliab approached Abinadab, raising an eyebrow. "How long are you going to give me the cold shoulder?" Eliab questioned.
Abinadab simply scowled at his older brother, his eyebrows furrowing and he was not playing around.
"Abinadab, I am getting tired of you giving me the silent treatment. You are being-"
"I'm being what? I'm not the one who willingly betrayed our brother to Saul and put our family in danger, and for what? A shot at glory?" Abinadab retorted, glaring daggers.
Eliab groaned, rubbing his temples as he argued back, his temper already starting to flare. "You're still upset about that? I thought we were past this. I made a mistake following Saul and I was wrong to do so and David forgave me. What will it take for you to stop being so childish?"
"That's rich, I'm the one being childish?" Abinadab laughed, before getting serious again. He jabbed Eliab in the chest with his finger, continuing to speak. "Ever since the prophet Samuel came to our home to anoint David as the new king, I know you were never happy and you were always petty and jealous of him because you weren't chosen. I'm not stupid, I've watched you for many years always throwing daggers at David and putting him down. Then you hand him over to Saul and now all of a sudden, you regret your decision and you've changed? Forgive me if I find it hard to believe that you really did change your ways and you're not planning on betraying David again," he hissed.
Abinadab rarely raised his voice or got angry since he was always a sweet and kind young man, so for him to be like this was very unusual. "Well, Eliab, tell me: Are you still obsessed with David being chosen as king over you and do you regret what you did?"
Eliab was about to retort, but he paused, unable to say anything. His brother scowled even more, shaking his head. "You say you made a mistake following Saul and David may have accepted your apology and forgiven you, but I find it hard to believe. So, excuse me for not easily accepting your 'apology'. I can't trust you right now," Abinadab coldly said, begrudingly letting go of Eliab and walking away from him. "Family doesn't sell each other out."
