Cherry Blossom Promise

A moment of peace.

No Jiraiya screaming in her ear about beautiful women, or Orochimaru muttering under their breath about things she’s certain she should not ask for clarification about.

Just her, Dan and a nice little picnic under the biggest cherry blossom tree in all of Konoha. A tree Tsunade knew well, having watched her grandmother tenderly planting it in the ground in her favourite resting spot.

“One day,” her grandmother promised as she guided her hands to bunch up some dirt over the saplings' roots. “This will be a tree big enough to sit under, and you’ll be able to spend your days sitting here. Maybe you’ll even have a moment to spare to remember me.”

Her grandmother was right. Here she was almost twenty years later standing under that same tree, staring up at the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming on the branches, and all she could think about was the woman who had sat by her bedside singing when she was scared, or stood behind her and taught her how to mix ingredients perfectly into a wonderful dish. 

She was so caught up in her memories that she forgot who she was with.

“Earth to Tsunade,” Dan flicked her against the forehead, chuckling when she glared at him. “So you are still in there.”

Rubbing the offending area, she huffed. “I like your kisses better,” she muttered under her breath. “Besides, it’s not like you can blame me.”

“I know, I know,” his laughter was infectious. A brilliant sound in a world so full of terrible noises. “This tree’s important to you. That’s why I thought it would be nice to have a picnic here.”

A picnic with the perfect view, in her opinion. With Dan in the forefront and the cherry blossoms perfectly framing him in a picture she would love to commit to memory.

A moment she never wanted to lose. 

“Just the two of hs,” she smiled at the thought. No teammates to come crashing in to ruin their fun. “You told Sakumo-“

“He’s training with Jiraiya,” Dan assured her. “When I told him my plan he agreed to distract the most likely person to interrupt us.” A Perfect plan. She knew she could count on the Hatake to have her back. 

“So it really is just the two of us,” with that confirmed, she slid in close to Dan’s side and laid her head on his shoulder. Something she would refrain from doing if they were expecting anyone else. “Some peace and quiet for once.”

“Just once,” Dan chuckled. “As a treat.”

The worst part was he wasn’t even wrong. With Jiraiya as her teammate, ‘peace’ wasn’t something she got often. It was only in a select few places where she could find a momentary escape from the loud brashness of her friend.

Dan’s company was one of those places.

“You know,” tilting her head back, she stared up at the tree above them and watched as a single petal separated from the flower and floated down, landing on top of Dan’s head. “Pink is a good colour on you.”

“It is, hmm?” Taking the hint, he reached up and searched his head until he found that lone petal, plucking it from his long silver hair and holding it out in front of himself. “Huh.”

“What is it?”

“Oh, nothing,” he moved the petal just in front of her face, still staring at it. “Just thinking.”

“About?”

Lowering the petal, he grinned. “About how much more beautiful you are than any flower I have ever seen.”

Heat rises through her neck into her cheeks. “I-'' unable to process his words, she reverted to standard operating procedure when dealing with embarrassment and punched him in the arm. She had enough control to keep from releasing chakra into the punch, meaning he wasn’t sent flying into the air, but it was still hard enough that Dan cringed away from her.

“Oww,” he complained, rubbing the affected area as if it would make the pain fade. “You know, I need this arm in working condition for my next mission.”

“I’ll heal it,” she promised, a mere mutter under her breath that he barely caught. “Just like I always do.”

“Well, I supposed I’m lucky that way,” tilting his head back he stared up into the sky. “I got the best medical ninja in the world to fall in love with me.”

“The slug princess,” she winked, using the nickname that the old puppeteer from Suna had given her. A nickname she found she loved a lot more than she was supposed to. “Are you sure that’s what you want in your life?”

Reaching out towards her, he threaded his fingers into her hair and pulled her in close, pressing a kiss against her forehead.

“Absolutely,” he whispered against her skin. “I can’t imagine my life without you by my side, Tsunade.”

Cheesy. Clearly, he had been spending too much time with Sakumo, he was picking up those dorky habits of his.

“Forever?”

“Forever and after.” He promised, smiling that bright handsome smile she loved so much.

“I’ll hold you to that, Dan Katō.” 

Here, under the cherry blossom tree, she had helped her grandmother plant, Tsunade saw her future unfolding in front of her. A future with Dan by her side, and many more dates under this same tree. 

Maybe one day, if she was lucky, they would marry here. Then her grandmother would have front row seats to that bright, beautiful future.

Sannin As Roommates/College Students

I got this idea from a sort of crack-ish fic I'm writing that's basically a Modern/College AU

Jiraiya

-i like to think he'd major in English or Literature. He's actually a great writer but tends to half-ass everything so he does very poorly in that class. He's the kind of guy who will write pretty good stuff...but only if it's not fir a grade and there's no time limit or anything. Anything he feels "obligated" to write will inevitably turn out poorly

-oh boy...he's definitely funny and will probably try to be your friend right away but...this man is a terrible roommate

-he's sloppy. Leaves dirty dishes/clothes everywhere. You'll be the one doing all the cleaning because he's not gonna do it himself

-wears fuckboy cologne to "impress" the ladies so you'll have to deal with smelling that all the time

-literally always has someone over. Whether it's one of his guy friends or a girl he fancies he's always got guests. And if it's a girl he gives you no notice or anything. So you're probably going to walk in on something you could have gone your entire life without seeing

-it goes without saying that he has a pretty big stash of porn that he doesn't hide all that well

-he's VERY pan but doesn't want to admit it to himself and will likely hit on a male roommate if drunk when his inhibitions have gone out the window. Hope you're prepared to deal with that!

-makes Orochimaru read his manuscripts for the raunchy novel he eventually wants to publish

-professors and staff generally don't like him or think he's irresponsible because he's always showing up either late or hungover and often falls asleep during lectures. They see him as someone who has potential but just won't apply himself

-his room is absolutely covered in posters of busty, attractive scantily clad actresses and models. And a few posters of old 80s rock bands.

-hangs out in a large group consisting of Tsunade, Yahiko, Naruto (everyone is close in age here. Naruto's a freshman and Jiraiya is a senior who acts like a freshman), Sakumo, a bunch of girls he likes, and on occasion he somehow drags Orochimaru along.

-he's got a lot of people he hangs out with but only Konan, Yahiko, Naruto, Sakumo, and Tsunade actually like him. A lot of his buddies actually think he's perverted or obnoxious. For whatever reason, Orochimaru tolerates him.

-he's had a lot of short flings with various women, none of which lasted longer than a few weeks because they all got annoyed with him an dumped him fir hitting on other women. The most serious relationship he had was with Tsunade but that didn't work out. Also got really drunk and tried to kiss Orochimaru at one point. Both of them act like it never happened.

-he hangs out with a lot of freshmen because they are the only people who think he's actually cool

Tsunade

-she's a med student and the top of her class. Is absolutely brilliant but it puts so much stress on her so she kind of goes crazy on the weekends to blow off steam

-Monday through Friday she's pretty alright. But she binge drinks to deal with stress once the weekend hits

-she'll definitely try to drag you along to one of the seedy dive bars in the area or drag you to a party. You'll have a great time but it's really better if you don't go because you'll probably both get blackout drunk and spend too much money

-Might pass out on the floor in the kitchen or something if she's that drunk

-if she gets too drunk you're probably going to be her designated driver lol

-gives surprisingly good advice but never follows through on it herself

-when she's not binge drinking she's actually a decent roommate though. She might be a bit hotheaded but unless you're someone like Jiraiya or Orochimaru (both of whom she grew up with) you probably won't be on the receiving end of her wrath. Not too messy, and probably won't bug you after hours

-her room is pretty neat but a little cluttered. She's got a make up collection lying around, a bunch of booze she's not supposed to have stashed in a minifridge in her closet, and her own poker set.

-professors typically have a pretty high opinion of her but find her intimidating. Somehow no matter how badly she gets trashed she never shows up drunk

-she'll hang out in a large group on occasion but spends the most time hanging out with Shizune, Sakura and Dan who she's been dating since freshman year and is now engaged to.

-she keeps her circle on the small side but is well liked and looked up to by most people. Some find her intimidating or hard to approach though.

-had a brief on again off again love-hate fling with Jiraiya in the first half of her freshman year but other than that she's only dated Dan who she paired off with in the second semester of her freshman year.

-she's alright with freshman and likes to help them whenever she can...but has little patients with fratboys

Orochimaru

-he's probably a biology or zoology major and the smartest person on campus and the smug fucker knows it. Impossibly high GPA and no one knows how he keeps it up with his insanely high workload.

-he's the least off the wall of the three and is more mature but everyone on campus is scared shitless of him and would rather deal with Jiraiya's antics than him

-he's barely even in the dorm at all. Spends 90% of his time studying in the library or typing up his thesis in the computer lab - doesn't bother with partying.

-hates pretty much everyone so when he's home he never enters the common area unless it's to cook or get coffee. He just hides out in his room all day reading/studying

-pops pills to keep himself awake so he can get everything done and might have a caffeine addiction

-Probably has a shitload of contraband stuff that's not allowed on campus cleverly hidden away in his room somewhere

-he's polite, possibly a little overly formal but will think it's weird if you try to talk to him and probably slink off to his room to avoid unnecessary conversation

-professors love this little fucker because he always goes above and beyond what's required of him, never shows up drunk or high, is very official in his mannerisms, always has something of value to add to class discussions, and is pretty much a model student. But some of them are a bit afraid of him because he might just be smarter than they are. Gets special treatment from Hiruzen (the dean) to the point that if some of his contraband shit was discovered that he'd be let off the hook with little more than a slap on the wrist.

-he is meticulously clean and organized to the point of it being kind of weird. His toom has almost no personal touches to it - no posters, no decor, nothing personal in there at all really except for a fancy looking sketchbook with a bunch of surprisingly well-drawn different species of snakes in it. He also has a contraband stash of pills (possibly adderall and some other stimulants that he bought illegally) hidden away somewhere). But for the love of God do NOT touch his stuff or knock on his door. Ever.

-he mostly keeps to himself but sometimes Jiraiya or Tsunade will drag him off to some event and he just kind of gives up and goes with it after a while. The only other person he's seen with is Kabuto, a sophomore who goes with him everywhere. No one knows if they're friends, if Oro is his peer tutor, if it's some kind of bromance or if they're actually boyfriends. And no one has the guts to ask.

-people simultaneously envy, are scared of, and hate his guts. Maybe has one or two admirers that are total weirdos.

-as far as we know he doesn't bother with or care about dating or anything of that nature. He's too concerned with his classes.

-hates freshmen with a PASSION and all of them are scared of him - he likes it that way. The only freshman he even tolerates are Sasuke and Kimimaro who he has been assigned to as a peer tutor but every other freshman is on his shit list (yes he has one)

The Purest Form of Peace

Tsunade’s eyes were closed, savoring the feeling of Dan’s hands gently raking through her hair, the feeling of his blunt nails scratching along her scalp. Slow and deliberate, he stroked through her hair with such tenderness and love that it made a warm, bubbly feeling rise up in Tsunade’s body. She felt like she was floating, laying on a cloud tethered only by Dan’s gentle ministrations. 

They’d long since abandoned what they were doing, a half-finished board game and unfinished snacks littering his coffee table. Dan held a novel in one hand, quietly reading, while Tsunade stretched out on the couch beside him with her head on his lap. Almost unconsciously, he ran his fingers through her voluminous blonde hair, which she’d untied from her ponytail to give him full access. Every so often he paused at the base of her neck to massage the skin there, then slowly went back to running his fingers through her locks to carve rivers through the pale blonde. 

They ended up like this often, just enjoying companionable silence together. It was the purest form of peace, the closest to tranquility they could get in this era of war. Lying on his lap, she could pretend that they were somewhere far away, that the threat of battle didn’t loom over their heads. She loved the times like this, where she could just forget about everything and float on the cloud of love. 

She reached up with her eyes still closed, playing with the pale blue wisps of his hair. He grunted in acknowledgement, and when she cracked her eyes open, he was looking down at her with an adoring smile. 

“Do you think other people are doing this same thing at this very moment?” she murmured. Dan raised an eyebrow, then closed the book and set it aside. He reclined a little into the couch, hand slipping through her hair to settle in the middle of her back. 

“Well, I hope so,” he said. “Otherwise, why would we do what we do? To allow others the chance to do this, to bask in relative peace... Is that not why we fight?” 

Tsunade hummed in agreement, then turned so her face was pressed into his belly. She felt his abs contract with his chuckles when she snuggled into him, arms looping around his waist. He resumed stroking her hair again, while Tsunade curled the ends of his long hair around and around her fingers. 

“I hope so, too,” she murmured. “Everyone deserves to feel the kind of love that I feel for you.” Dan leaned over to press a lingering kiss to the top of her head, making her smile against his shirt. Yes, she hoped others were doing this now, enjoying the purest kind of peace.

Dan was never killed. He is happily married to Tsunade and they have an amazing life together. They consider Naruto and Sakura their adopted kids and life is GREAT.

Rin is alive and she and Kakashi are incredibly close. Life is still GREAT.

Sasuke left the village WHO?! Sasuke rogue ninja WHO?!
