WIP game: Throw the gauntlet down to fate

Gauntlet is my BABY and unfortunately keeps getting bigger every time I touch it — it started as a drabble 😅 It probably won't see the light of a day for a long time, based on how big it's getting.

It's a hero!James/villian!Lily AU, and has big dark knight vibes bc those were my superhero movies, so I took a lot of inspiration from those. I already gave snippets here and here, and here's another bit of dialogue between Lily and Sirius:

“The only problem is: it’s untested.” “Great, so we have a bag full of— ow, son of a—” “Let the test begin,” Lily said, capping the used syringe and tossing it in a different container. “You stabbed me!” “I poked you.” “Your girlfriend stabbed me!” “Oh, cry a little harder, why don’t you.”

WIP Tag

I was tagged by @dizzy--bird to share a snippet from a current WIP (thanks for the tag!!) I'll share this snippet from my superhero AU.

“He’ll be fine,” Sirius said. “Minus the massive headache he’ll wake up to.” He turned to face Lily but found her leaning against the wall for support, one hand pressed tight against her abdomen. “Evans?” he inquired, stepping forward. He saw blood drip out from beneath her hand as she slid to the floor. “Christ,” he said, rushing to where she now sat back to the wall. “You were hurt and you didn’t say anything?” he yelled. “I’m still conscious, that’s one up on Bambi,” she said weakly. “You won’t be for long if you bleed out. Have you considered get mortally wounded less often? Or wearing an armored suit?” “I operate in the shadows,” she said, her head falling back against the wall, eyes closed. “Or at least I used to.” “I can’t believe you helped carry him the entire way here,” he said, pressing a towel to her wound. “Hold this until I get back. If I let you die he’ll never forgive me.”

I'm going to give you two snippets, because these are the two WIPs I'm most excited about and I can't help myself lol

Superhero/villian AU

“What are you doing here?”

“Released early on good behavior,” she said with a grin, stepping closer to him.

“So they let you serve —” James looked at his watch. “Two hours of a five year sentence?”

She smirked. “I never said I didn’t release myself.”

“I’m just going to bring you back there, you know.”

She pushed him backwards and he fell into a seated position on the edge of the bed. She straddled him, her lips nearly brushing against his cheek as she slowly brought her mouth to his ear and whispered, “You’re going to try.”

Marching Band AU (this involves a Nerf gun, not a real one)

Without thinking, he leaned forward, and his lips met Lily’s sooner than he thought they would. The kiss was soft, sweet, and he felt her hand press against his chest. Then, he felt hard plastic join it.

He backed up slowly, raising his arms. Lily’s other hand came up to grab the multi-colored neon gun she had aimed at him. “Et tu, Lily?” James asked.

“It’s Brutus, and you have five seconds before I shoot.”

James grinned, then ran.

💎 - What’s a WIP idea you’ve really enjoyed writing?

I've mentioned my superhero au on here a few times, and it would definitely have to be that one. It started out small and gradually became an entire universe of its own. It's not even half-way finished and I've already made several moodboards based on it, and I even have a few smaller oneshot wips set in that universe that give some background on side characters! It's basically like a grown-up dollhouse to me at this point, and as frustrating as it is to not have something to show for it yet, it is a lot of fun to work on.
