Do I make a “modern times” version of Mystwork Heart, set in the setting of my novelette Date Bite (which is the future of the MWH universe). So no trains. And focused on an urban fantasy solarpunk-adjacent world where Cryptids, winnowing, and the supernatural is mostly an echo of what it once was. Or it was… until a myst storm hit your city 3 years ago.
Or do I go forward with making a whole new Dream Magic magical girl game. Where traumatized neurodivergents travel between the dreaming and waking world to fight corporations and dream monsters. As the worlds slowly collide. Also they have to balance their waking (Persona) and dreaming (Omen) selves… who can talk to each other.
hey TTRPG-making community what does everyone use to actually compile their finished games? like?? canva?? google docs? i'm struggling finding one i like (for adding visuals) that still has the functionality to provide text that can be screenread
Thinking about the time I had a male witch (just flavored warlock tbh) dnd character who was in the land of the dead and was undead bc of circumstances (but was a warlock so I had some spells still).
So like I cast turn undead bc I was like “oh I can escape this place by turning undead because everything here is undead” and it kind of broke reality and left my body completely devoid of any soul and a demon filled the void created in my being and came with a nifty imp familiar.
anyways being possessed by a demon kinda made me a vampire and this imp was all too eager to go out and commit murder for “mama” so I had people to feed on. Like, kidnap a person in the middle of the night and bring them to my vampire witch to feed on but climbing into my arms and snuggling up all proud of being helpful for “mama”.
He’d just take the form of a cat and lure people into alleys at night and kill them to make mama happy. And like this was years ago but I think he enjoyed the murder to an almost concerning degree too. But it was really hard to stay mad when this imp just curls up in your arms and snuggles you and looks up with a lil cute fucked up imp face and says “mama!” In a proud and self assured way like he was proud of himself and happy to be with you.
It’s like the drunk undead people leaving the taverns in the land of the dead were the enrichment and the entirety of hell was his enclosure.
And that’s the story of how my char basically had a murder puppy who read my gender in a game 2 years before I even did in real life
Decided to try and build a TTRPG around my birds using a similar style to “Storytelling System” by White Wolf? But with D&D dice?? We’re gonna see how well it goes…
I still have to make skills and attributes so this is going to be fun.
Silly drawing for Bare Bones Bureautica (my TTRPG). Just trying to practice the style I want to use, so this isn’t a named character or anything, but they’re an Illusionist Whiskered, probably an energy or blinding source.
Sooooo I have another ongoing project that I want to start posting about on here: my TTRPG! This is my first actual rpg (the ones I've made before were not very good) and is meant to fix some of my issues I have with game systems that I currently play with. The system is based on D&D, some other magic systems I enjoy (pokemon, dungeon meshi, MLP, tinkerbell), and my own homebrew. The setting is inspired by 15th and 16th century Europe, Peru, and India, but with some modern flavoring (though that all may change). The theming of the game is education and decolonialization, and is combat flexible depending on what players want to do.
Anyways, all that to say I'm going to start posting more about this once exams are done with!
So I’ve been gone for a little bit and I feel like I should update y’all. Because I’ve been working on something I think is very cool!
In addition to my regular maps and such that you already know about (whoo for hand drawn map work!) I’ve also been putting together a small TTRPG system of my own creation! The system is currently called Xiris: A World of Blood.
The core concept I was after while creating this was to make a game that was impactful, made players feel cool, and was very easy to pick up. Mechanically, the system is going to be much lighter than things like D&D or Shadowrun and (hopefully) encourage players to take a different approach to combat encounters.
How? Well, in Xiris, every character has access to between 2 and 6 abilities. These abilities are the primary means of dealing damage to Monstrosities. But unlike in most systems, a player can choose to use as many or as few of their abilities on a turn as they want. The only catch is, every time they use an ability (apart from the first), they must pay an HP cost to do so. Throw in the fact that every ability can be modified by a player paying Stat points to change various aspects, and despite the abilities having static damage values and there only being 6, every combat encounter should feel quite different!
I wanted to focus on a game that asks players the questions “What is victory worth” on a very mechanical level. But in addition to all that, the characters of Xiris are truly unique. You won’t encounter other adventurers who can do what you do; your powers, and their source, are a mystery from the outset, but you have strength beyond the means and ken of virtually anyone else in the world. What you’ll use it for, though, is entirely up to you.
I hope to start posting first drafts and samples in the coming weeks and am really hopeful to have a first draft, including world building, done by the holidays! So keep an eye out for that, I hope you’ll all enjoy it a hell of a lot!
