I absolutely love how Eugene, the widely known professional thief in the kingdom, didn't attempt to steal anything the whole time they were in Corona.

He really valued that she gets to have a good time and was willing to spend his money for her if that meant she gets to live her life to the fullest (as it can be) for even just one day, on her birthday no less. And that's such a big deal for someone who "grew up with nothing"

Like he wanted to do right by Rapunzel knowing this is her first time experiencing all sorts of new things outside her tower. He treated the day with importance because he knew it's important to her. Rapunzel's good-hearted nature allowed him to let his own shine through in these moments and she is appreciative of that.

And when they were rowing the boat to get the best view of the lanterns, he described this day as "the best day of her life" as she put it earlier, and he truly made sure it was. It's so so sweet of him.

I really wish they let Rapunzel be mad at Cass*.

I wish we got conversations like:

"Yo, Cass. It was kinda fucked up when you drugged Varian."

"Cass, why did you leave me and Pascal in that cave to die?"

That would help with the unrealism of literally nobody calling out Cass AND maybe would have made Cass see that she was an actual villain

*Or, at the very least, show that she thought Cass's actions weren't okay

thinking about the stark difference between how eugene handles having everything he ever wanted right in front of him vs how hugo handles having everything he ever wanted right in front of him

how eugene eagerly tries to secure what he has going with raps so immediately because he's scared to lose this good thing vs how hugo doesn't rush to secure his with varian and bracing himself into losing it all eventually any day instead BECAUSE this thing is good, almost too good for someone like him and thinking that no good thing in his life ever lasts forever for that matter

I just love whenever anytime Varian gets abducted in a fic for being a (politically) valuable asset to prissy nobles and the fic frames it as oh he's not stuck with the kidnappers, no no, the kidnappers are stuck with him—its mwah chef's kiss

Gotta be one of my favorite subplot to display Varian's calculating badass side from his villain era at the forefront like ugh it's peak everytime

Actually trying to look closer into Quirin's character is quite intriguing. We only saw super few glimpses of his time as a knight of the dark kingdom, and what they showed us was his caring and hospitable side towards the people of umbra: like looking after the king's well-being and being attentive as much as he can in assisting to make sure their people were evacuated safely.

But he's also a member of the brotherhood, yknow, the organization that swore to keep guard of the moonstone, a group of people trained to be ruthless warriors. And I like to think before he was the gentle simple farmer the show introduced us to in the beginning, Quirin probably had his fair share of callous personality during his time as a brotherhood member just as much as his brother and sister are. (And that maybe his relationship with meeting Ulla, someone bright in mind and spirit who was full of curiosity and wonder, helped bring out his much softer side)

Quirin had an innate desire to serve and protect his people even if it meant taking the more questionable route to get it done when deemed a necessity, while Ulla had an innate strong willingness to act upon her personal convictions even if it meant putting everything she's got on the line just to prove a point and be heard.

and Varian exhibits the perfect mix of both those traits—truly his father and mother's son. Perhaps a dark streak runs in the family as a whole after all.
