tagged by @yiling thank yooouuuu. i’ve been struggling so hard with writing lately but i’m determined to be chill lol, so two active WIPs:

1. songxiao canon era prostitution fic. before they met, xxc was a solo traveler with a) no consistent source of income, b) poor money-minding habits, and c) a nonnormative sense of what’s “proper” or not. Also d) he’s quite attractive. All this means he definitely picked up sex work here and there. Not long after they start traveling together, Song Lan witnesses Xiao Xingchen turn on the charm to land a john.

And then requests to sit in on a session.

“Fine.”

The first word from the man, and it was this: a curt, emotionless agreement for Song Lan to be present in the room while he fucked Xiao Xingchen on the nearby bed. The oddest thing was precisely its lack of emotion. His consistent glare, the sharp downturn of his brow all smoothed out to a neutral facade to speak.

And to look at Song Lan. That wasn’t pity, but Song Lan couldn’t tell what it was, either.

“But you don’t touch me.”

A man after Song Lan’s own heart.

“Fine,” Song Lan agreed. “It’s settled then.”

Xiao Xingchen seemed vaguely startled by this turn of events, but slipped in seamlessly to seal the deal. Suddenly struck by a pummel of guilt for strong-arming his way in like this, without Xiao Xingchen’s approval, Song Lan had to hide a grimace behind a sip of tea.

“Then, Xianshi, we’ll see you tonight.”

Daozhang nearly coughed up his whole piping today. I had to drop him into stasis by force before anything went too terribly wrong. He’s cooling off now.

I also lifted Song Daozhang from his possession, duh. Say hi Song Daozhang.

It’s really creepy, actually. Not in a bad way, of course, this is the hand of my savior! Or maybe it’s not. I’ve been thinking about this as a thought experiment, to keep my mind occupied between the fighting, right? Is this Song Daozhang’s hand? It’s not like it’s got any organic matter from the man himself. Sure, according to the Baixue blueprints, there were parts that ended up grafted directly onto Song Daozhangs bones, but that didn’t include this hand, apparently. No bone matter, and all the protein padding under the synthskin basically melted away the moment we stepped onto Tonglu Mountain. So is this Song Daozhang’s hand? Yes, because it’s still warm with his cultivation. That’s easy enough.

But the complicated part of the question is on the flip side. Forget the thing itself, what if there’s nobody to own it? Technically, it’s our hand. It’s Daozhang’s hand, because it’s in Daozhang’s possession. But can it be Song Daozhang’s hand if Song Daozhang doesn’t exist anymore—deep questions, dude. You know who’d be able to answer it? Song Daozhang, ha ha ha ha ha ha.
