Hey, the default Linux console fonts are kinda old-looking.
They also don't include Powerline support and box-drawing characters.
…anyway, I made a new one that does a better job. :)
A modern bitmap font for Linux terminal that combines the best features of other very good bitmap fonts. - bynux-gh/bynfont
(It's also in the AUR ^^)
Can you use TTY to do things like contact your bank, doctor, insurance providers, etc??? We've been struggling lately because my insurance needs information updated, but they won't let my dad speak for me (I'm nonverbal) without official permission (like a medical proxy) and we don't really know exactly how to... Work with/around that.
If I could just use the TTY built into my own phone to get around the problem, that would be great, but I'm unsure if they will accept that because... If they won't accept my father speaking for me, I worry they may not accept a random relay center person speaking for me either... I mean, it would be very easy to fake or manipulate, someone could easily just pretend to be me...
Edit: it's also a bit of a time sensitive issue because I can't get any new referrals until this is sorted out, and I really need to get my wrist and other joints checked for arthritis/other issues because I've been dealing with constant joint pain, weakness, and easily injuring myself since last December and I need to know why. Yes I know I should have taken care of it sooner, I know!!! Hindsight, 20/20, we get it... I just need some help and insight from anyone with more experience, I've been very dependent on others so far and I haven't really learned how to handle things myself yet, I'm still learning to be independent as a disabled adult ...
Remembering when the TTY was the bestest way to communicate for those who were hard if hearing, deaf, late deaf and those who had speech difficulties.
Remembering the loud beeping and ringing sound each key made and how it drove my Dad crazy to hear the keys typing at so many words per minute, when he was trying to relax and watch tv on the weekends.
I was trying to make plans with friends to go shopping or to lunch or to a movie. Where to eat, shop or what movie to see. Then of course you get chatting bc it was easier to read the typed words on the TTY, than to guess what we were saying via hearing aids and lipreading. My friends didn't know sign language back then.
I don't think anyone uses a TTY today? Most people use smartphone text to talk or text or email.
The fax machine was a plus to have along with a TTY. Sometimes writing a note to fax was quicker and quieter.
Gone are the days of what we thought was epic high technology when these machines were invented.
Great memories!
