Tufflout Week 2025 Prompt: Flight
"Stupid Hiccup. This was a dumb idea"
Snotlout had his arms folded, he was on Barf's saddle, this was the tenth time they did this, and he seemed to be the only one that couldn't grasp it.
Tuffnut should've been ticked off, Ruffnut already gave up, Fishlegs and her had it instantly, Astrid and Tuffnut did too, they were in sync in a snap.
They were supposed to be done by now, today the twins were showing the others how to fly Barf and Belch in pairs, first it was supposed to be one of the twins and another rider and then the other twin after, so far everyone else had it down.
But Snotlout.
Tuffnut knew he could do it, like that one time, and Snotlout even gloated. But he was failing miserably and it was getting dark.
Snotlout didn't want to give up, he swore he could, and Tuffnut surprisingly wasn't upset, he was amused really, Snotlout was only failing because he was getting in his own way over and over, confident he had it, and wouldn't listen.
Its why Ruffnut called it a night and gave up, Tuffnut wasn't going to, and Snotlout was too proud to quit trying.
The zippleback however was tired of flying in circles, Barf grumbled like the rider on his neck. Tuffnut had seen that many times, the dragon was about to take over.
"Snotlout I'd calm down"
"Calm down? Why should I calm down!?"
"Uh Because-"
"Hiccup had to make us do this dumb flight exercise-" Snotlout was cut off by Barf flipping his neck upside down, earning a scream as Snotlout nearly fell off clinging to Barf's horns. Belch made a chortling laugh.
"TUFFNUT!"
Tuffnut patted Barf's neck and gave a look to the dragon, Barf didn't want Snotlout back in his saddle for the moment the rider was gripping his horns too hard and kept yanking them around, but Tuff looked rather serious, and to Barf it was only a once in a while kind of thing.
Barf didn't drop Snotlout into the ocean like he wanted, and instead shook him off onto Belch's neck, Snotlout screamed for Hookfang, and hugged Belch's neck like a lifeline.
"Thats why I said to calm down"
"YOUR DRAGON ALMOST KILLED ME!"
"Barf and Belch wouldn't kill you. Just scare you. Maybe"
"I don't care! Take me back to the edge!"
"What happened to-"
"I don't care anymore!" Snotlout snaps, slowly righting himself behind Tuffnut, "I just want to Go back to my hut, light the fire and go to bed"
Barf looked rather smug, Belch seemed happy aswell, Tuff normally would be on their side but after being at this for hours, now wasted time he could've used to do anything he wanted, and now he'd have to do this again until Snotlout could handle Barf or Belch, because Hiccup needs everyone to be able to fly everyone else's dragons in case of an emergency.
The part Tuffnut doesn't understand is Snotlout did it once, easily, like it wasn't even a problem while in the heat of battle. So what was different that he couldn't grasp now?
Snotlout was barely staying on Belch, trying not to get to close to Tuffnut.
"You're gonna fall off. And it won't even be funny because I won't see it"
"Haha very funny. Can't they go any faster?"
"Seeing as There's only one rider flying Barf and Belch right now, no."
"Sheesh. At least land and let me find a better spot to hold on" Snotlout grumbles.
Tuffnut looks back at him unamused, "just hold onto me"
"No!" Snotlout looked at him offended.
"What do you mean no!? Theres nothing else to hold onto!"
Snotlout didn't answer him, he looked at anything but him with a tight lip and a scowl, he couldn't hide his burning ears, but it wasn't like Tuffnut could see them especially in the dark.
"Theres no one around. So stop freaking out Lout and hold on, or I'm telling Ruff you almost fell off Barf" Tuffnut felt like he was the only one being reasonable here, and he never likes being reasonable.
Surprisingly Snotlout's arms went around his waist, and the other viking slid up behind him, chest to his back. Not a word was said, Snotlout seemed to relax a bit, but Tuffnut could feel Snotlout's chest against him, and how fast his heart was beating.
He didn't say anything about it, the flight was slient, cold aside from the heat of the dragon and each other, stars appeared in the sky. they'd flown further then they were supposed to, Tuffnut's brilliant idea while he was messing with Snotlout earlier.
After a few silent moments Snotlout rested his head against Tuffnut's shoulder, looking over the night sea as they flew.
"You're cold" Snotlout mumbled.
"Ruffnut stole all the warmth in the womb" he shrugged.
"That can happen?"
"I dunno, but Its funny when I put my hand on her shoulder, or accidentally bump her with my toes and she yells"
Snotlout gives a small laugh, "you should do that to Astrid"
"Do you want me dead?"
"No." Snotlout pauses "maybe. She'll probably feed you to a nadder"
"I'll tell her it was your idea then, maybe I'll get to see you fly without a dragon" Tuffnut grins.
"Okay maybe not Astrid" Snotlout smiles.
Both liked the small moment, the gentle flight, the stars, the soft teasing chatter. Comfortable and surprisingly romantic, though neither would admit it.
Late? Sure, but late? Never💪

Just like day 5 ^^ (but fully cloathed)
Day 1: Flight
It was the kind of night where the moon hung like a perfect pearl, casting a silver light over the quiet fortress of Dragon's Edge. A few torches flickered on the walls, but otherwise, everything was still. Everyone was asleep.
Except Snotlout.
He loved the nights. The world was his. He slid into Hookfang's saddle, the Monstrous Nightmare’s scales still warm from the day’s heat. Hookfang rumbled, a lazy sound in the quiet air, and then with a powerful beat of his wings, they lifted off. The wind was crisp and cool against Snotlout's face, a stark contrast to the dragon’s fiery warmth. He urged Hookfang into a slow, meandering flight, content to just drift and watch the stars. This was his time, his peace.
"Mind if I join?"
Snotlout almost fell out of his saddle. Tuffnut, who seemed to have materialized out of thin air, was already climbing up behind him.
"What are you doing here?!" Snotlout hissed, trying not to be too loud. "And how did you even get here?"
Tuffnut settled in behind him, wrapping his arms loosely around Snotlout's waist and resting his chin on his shoulder. "Barf and Belch are very loud snorers. I couldn't get a wink of sleep. And you're not exactly subtle, you know, with the whole 'launching into the night sky on a giant fiery reptile' thing."
Snotlout grumbled. "Well, go back to your hut. I wanted to be alone."
He expected Tuffnut to argue, or to say something utterly ridiculous. Instead, Tuffnut was quiet for a long moment, just leaning against him.
"Nah," Tuffnut finally said, his voice soft. "This is better."
The silence stretched on as they flew higher, the world below shrinking into a tapestry of shadows and moonlit rooftops. The air grew colder, and Snotlout shivered. He felt Tuffnut pull him closer from behind, the other Viking's warmth a welcome shield against the wind.
For a moment, Snotlout's muscles tensed, ready to push him away. But then he felt the steady rise and fall of Tuffnut's chest against his back, and the comforting weight of his arms. He found himself relaxing, the tension in his shoulders melting away. He wasn’t alone anymore, and for some reason, that felt a whole lot better than it should have.
They flew in a quiet, comfortable silence for what felt like hours. Tuffnut just held on, and Snotlout let him. He looked up at the constellations, tracing the familiar shapes with his eyes, no longer feeling the need to be the tough, unbothered Viking. Up here, under the stars, there was only him, Hookfang, and the strange, quiet boy behind him.
Tuffnut broke the silence again, his voice a low murmur. "It's so much bigger up here, isn't it?"
Snotlout didn't answer, just leaned back a little more into the steady warmth. He didn’t need to say it out loud. Tuffnut knew. The quiet of the night, the vastness of the sky, the subtle comfort of being together—it was perfect.
“Yeah it is.”
Told y'all there'd be day 3 and 4 today
