Tufted ducks on Wanstead flats 6.7.26
Image IDs: a series of photos showing two male tufted ducks, black with grey sides and yellow eyes, playfighting (i think). In the first image, the two have their bodies crossed over each other, raised out of the water with their bills open. The second and third images show the water splashing upwards as the birds hit the water again. The fourth and fifth images show one duck swimming on the water’s surface surrounded by ripples, before it also dives under water.

Great Tit, Blue Tit, Starlings, Jackdaw, firethorn berries and rose hips were also nice to see at home today. At Lakeside rose hips, mossy rose gall, buttercup, daisy, knapweed, wild parsnip, self-heal, red clover, interestingly hazel catkins coming before the colourful autumn leaves had fallen which someone I know online observed too, fleabane and wild carrot seed heads, violet leaves, lichen, shaggy scalycaps, turkey tail, Goldfinches, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Coot, Moorhen, Great Crested Grebes, three Tufted Ducks including my first female here this autumn, Herring Gull, Grey Squirrel and a Marmalade hoverfly were great to see.
