Something that I find really interesting about Tula is how Brennan pretty much equates her to Mrs. Brisby, the protagonist of The Secret of NIMH.

Mainly, in that, it tells a lot about the story Brennan is angling for her. Mrs. Brisby is not brave or "special" like her husband and the rats are. She's just a mother, who wants to protect her child and her home.

While her actions in the film can be seen as brave, she sees them more as necessity. She's a widow trying desperately to keep the life she has left together.

Tula doesn't want this. She wants her family safe, her children safe, and doesn't want this light business or to kill a bear or anything. She's grieving her husband, who was up to something. She's trying to be strong for her kids. She's makes the choice for the compassionate option, the kind option when she is able. Maybe it's been core to her. Maybe it's her way of dealing without the closure of burying her husband.

Either way, looking at Mrs. Brisby's story as a jumping off point for an arc for Tula is just...fascinating in the long term.

Tula saying “I can’t put any more effort into being a daughter.” and “Whatever grade we got , we got” is just KILLING ME. Brennan and Rashawn are amazing.
