Count on you to pick the most difficult questions :D Okay, um, when Scott was really little he was actually the shyer of the two. Up until Stiles’s mother died, the Stilinski home was relatively functional (which is to say, I’m sure that they weren’t perfect, just like any other family, but there worked relatively well). Stiles was always an odd kid, though, because that’s just who he is, but compared to Scott, whose home was tension-filled since practically just after his birth, he enjoyed a more comfortable and safe home.
So in the very beginning, when they were kids, Scott was actually the kid who was even more quiet than Stiles was. Scott was more the kid who just sat there silently eating his lunch while Stiles was the one who tried to make friends and overstepping his boundaries by accidentally being obnoxious. And then one day, Scott ran out of his house when it was raining but he’d left his umbrella because he’d just wanted to get out and away from the fights at home, and Stiles sidled up to him and shared his umbrella with him and they got to talking.
And Scott didn’t think that Stiles was that weird, or at least he wasn’t bothered by it. And Stiles didn’t think Scott was that weird, only that he was very quiet. And they found a non-judgmental environment in each other, and then they started eating together at school and talking and showing each other porn mags when they were old enough to get interested in that sort of thing, and the beautiful friendship was born.
Stiles still has the umbrella he used that first day when he talked to Scott. It’s too small for them now, it’s just a kid’s umbrella, possibly with a Superman or Star Wars logo on it, but he has it in the closet in his room still.
X - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms
I’ve already mentioned a few in the other replies so I’ll think of some more! Umm, Buffy/Faith from BTVS, but also Willow/Tara from the same fandom. Suzaku/Lelouch from the anime Code Geass. (They were a HUGE ship of mine, and I’ve probs written a combined 100,000 words plus about them).
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go
gurl that’s not fair, I already word-vomited a ton of Scott-and-Stiles headcanon! Okay okay, ummm, so it actually took me a really long tim to accept fanfiction as being ‘valuable’ and ‘genuine,’ I guess. Like for a long time, I still had a bit of a complex about being a fanfiction writer (and not a ‘real’ writer, although I’ve written original stuff). But when I meet people who’ve read stuff by me who aren’t into fandom, they’ll often tell me, “Why aren’t you writing original stuff and make money? You’re talented!” and etc.
And that is hugely flattering, but it also led to a lot of shame regarding my affinity for fanfiction, so for a long time, I was kind of ashamed of the fact I was writing it at all. This changed a few years ago, when I looked back at my own life, and I realized that among the most influential works of fiction (that is to say, the works that had the most influence on me, personally), quite a few were fanfiction. And occasionally I still receive messages from people who’ve read my fanfic and tell me that it meant something to them, and even when it didn’t, it makes me really happy to think I’ve made someone happy or made them laugh or made them feel something with it, and I think that’s when I realized that I may not make any money off of fanfiction or ever get famous or anything like that, but it’s not worthless. It’s still a way of reaching out to people and forming friendships and making an impression on this world.
(Well, you asked for rambling, you got rambling. Hah!).
