Fankid Week Day 4: Traveling Age

While the older Hoenn fankids are all in their mid-to-late 20s -- and many are even parents themselves -- during the era of Emery and co.’s journey and the main plot... they too were once bratty new trainers.

Featuring baby goth Jasper, his rival Landon (Wanda/Riley’s son), and their mutual friend Angelica (Brawly/Roxanne’s daughter) who is this close after having to put up their constant bickering. She grew up with a fighting-type specialist for a dad and she’s not afraid to use what she learned from him.

Some updates + a snippet of the next chapter. Having a lot of fun writing it, so the glaring flaws aren't currently bothering me, but ill have to go back over it a few times before she goes up. This chapter goes into some heavier themes. It's still not the lowest low, but given the content, I'm trying to be very purposeful with each line.

This is the 1 (one) Jonah-POV chapter yall get. Im so happy people like him!! Ive gotten a lot of positive feedback on Jonah and his character + how he changes. When i was first playing as him, way back in...I wanna say 2019? I knew i wanted him to be very complicated. I wanted him to be raw and messy and frustrating in the way only real people can be, and Im very happy with how he's turning out.

As seen, the next chapter is from Jonah's POV as he experiences the Grange Fair and ruminates on both his life in the town, and how he ended up there. Im trying to not exposition dump, so a lot of his thoughts are disjointed and dont spell out what he went through or his relationships with people. This chapter is also a major turning point in the Alex/Jonah relationship, as they both have to make a hard choice, and face the consequences.

I wanted to give Jonah a chapter because he's so hard to read, intentionally so. And for the next plot points coming up, I wanted readers to know whats going on in his head, how he feels about Alex and himself, so that when we hit certain story moments, they know exactly why Jonah does what he does. This is me peeling back the layers.

Jonah cannot be described simply. If I had to, I'd say he's a young man who has had his trust in himself completely destroyed, and is torn between what makes him feel safe and what might be good for him. I cant have him just say outright what his deal is, so the next best thing is to put the reader in his head and let them draw their own conclusions. And there many conclusions you can come to, depending how you personally see the world. Is Jonah irrational, or are his insecurities in his relationship with Alex understandable and maybe even justified? Does he truly have grace for himself and forgive himself for the things he did, or is it a coping mechanism to not feel guilt? Is he planning on staying in Pelican Town, or leaving? Which one does he want to do, and what will he actually do? For what reasons? Jonah's head moves a mile a minute. I hope that comes off correctly. Getting to exercise my more dramatic writing muscles has been fun. But in this chapter, Jonah is bouncing back and forth between opposing ideas. The thesis of this chapter is getting an answer you dont want, and being asked a question you didn't realize was being asked.

My hopes for this chapter is that people see Jonah outside of Alex's perspective, and find more reasons to love him while understanding both why he loves Alex, and why the story takes the turn its going to. Idk when it'll be ready, life is crazy rn, but im having fun chipping away at this.

Finally updates the fic after a few months of fighting for my life
